Tumblr Importer shows Custom Domain
-
Hello, I’ve read the other posts about this but none of those suggestions work.
- Disconnect importer
- Turn off custom domain on Tumblr
- Delete wordpress app on Tumblr
- Delete Browser Cache
- Reconnect to Tumblr
- Still shows “Custom Domain”
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey there,
Thanks for reaching out, it looks like we’ve reached out via email with some next steps on how to resolve this import issue.
Looking at that email, I would imagine you should be able to import the site from Tumblr.
Please do reach back out via that email should you require any further assistance.
Many thanks.

Hi @aleone89- I did receive an email that only lists what I already said I had done (though without even bothering to give all the steps I listed originally). This is just a boilerplate response that is in no way helpful. Please help resolve my issue:
“Thank you for the details! Here are the steps you’ll want to follow to import your Tumblr blog to WordPress.com:
- Run the Importer: From your WordPress.com dashboard, navigate to Tools → Import. Click “Choose from full list”. Under Tumblr, click “Run Importer”. You may need to click “Install Now” first.
- Authenticate with Tumblr: Click the “Connect to Tumblr to begin” button. You will then be directed to your Tumblr account to connect it to WordPress.com. Click “Allow”. Once you click “Allow”, your Tumblr account and WordPress.com account will be connected.
- Import Your Content: The importer will fetch a list of your Tumblr blogs and let you pick which one to import. Click “Import this blog” next to the Tumblr blog you wish to import. Once you start the import, progress will be shown on the import page and you’ll receive an email when the import is finished.
If your Tumblr site has a custom domain (like yourgroovydomain.com instead of automattic.tumblr.com), then you’ll need to disable the custom domain temporarily while the import is processed. You can do this on Tumblr by clicking on the Settings button, choosing the blog you’d like to update, then toggling the “Use a custom domain” marker to the off position.
After the import, you can set up Domain Connection on your WordPress.com site so that your readers can reach your site.” - Run the Importer: From your WordPress.com dashboard, navigate to Tools → Import. Click “Choose from full list”. Under Tumblr, click “Run Importer”. You may need to click “Install Now” first.

Hi there,
When I visit https://majorracket.wordpress.com/wp-admin/admin.php?import=tumblr it does not seem that you have connected your Tumblr account. Can you connect and re-try your import, then let us know (while you are still connected) so we can take a closer look?
Also what is the URL of the Tumblr blog you are trying to import so we can also take a closer look at that site. Thanks!

Hey! Thank you so much for jumping in to help and checking out my account.
I’ve already completed my workaround of export from tumbler and using ruby and Jekyll to import that as a markdown site.Just a guess here: tumblr seems to have reorganized the api url paths on its site from which we can import data. I got a lot of 404s doing it programmatically. Other sites that do automatic imports from tumblr (e.g. Squarespace) that aren’t working now. The Jekyll import has a tumble importer that 404s
when I tried to import my other tumblr blogs to multiple platforms using a variety of methods, they too failed.
all-in-all my situation is fixed now. I hope the information on providing is accurate enough to be helpful to you.
THT
