Tumblr Importing after almost 48 hours

Hi, my blog has been importing for a while now – I started it Monday afternoon.

It took a while for it to start, and when I woke up Tuesday it had completed about 10% of my posts. However, since then it has not done any more.

I completely understand that there has been a large influx of imports, and I expect my blog to take a while since it is fairly large. I’m not trying to rush anything! I just want to make sure that the importer hasn’t gotten stuck on something that it can’t complete.

Thank you so much for your help!

  • Hi there! It looks like you have a very large Tumblr site, with 27,581 posts, is that correct?

I do see that your previous import failed, although 2,880 posts were imported successfully. I’ve cleared out the current import job for now.

You may want to reduce the size of your import before trying again, since the extremely large number of posts may not be successful. For example, delete old posts you may not need to import, delete saved drafts, etc.

Let us know how it goes!

Thank you for the response! Yes, that is correct that I have that many posts.

I’d really like to keep all of the posts, since it acts as sort of a time-capsule of the past few years of my life. Do you think this would be possible? Or do you think that it is necessary to remove some of the posts.

Also, to start importing again, do I just press the “import this blog” button again?

  • I have asked our developers to take a look at this to see if anything can be done to get all your posts imported, but it won’t be until tomorrow at the earliest. We’ll keep you posted here!

Also, to start importing again, do I just press the “import this blog” button again?

Yes – the importer should automatically skip posts that have already been imported.

Thank you so much! But now i have a new problem haha. When I go to import, it says that I can only have one import running at a time, but I have no other imports running.

  • I’ve reset your importer again. :)

Hi, sorry to bother you again, but it’s been 24 hours and the importer hasn’t started yet. Should I wait until there’s a solution for importing all my posts?

  • Hi there,

I’ve double checked to confirm your import is still queued. But please do reconnect to your Tumblr account if you’ve disconnected it, as that could be preventing it from starting.

We’re processing quite a few imports from Tumblr at the moment, which is causing a backlog of imports in our system. While it may look like your import failed, it’s just in line for processing, and luckily it’s still in the queue. At this point I’m not able to give an estimate on how long it might take to catch up with the backlog, though.

    Ok, thank you so much!

Hey so it looks like the importer started and got stuck again. Is there any way to restart the importer without losing my place in the queue? ;)

  • @thatcactusgirl we can’t reset it without you losing your place, but the good news is that we don’t have as many sites trying to import at this moment — still quite a few but not like the other day.

I noticed your media library is completely out of space and I’m guessing that’s causing an issue for you.

Are you able to upgrade to a plan that will hold more media? I think if you retry the import after that you’ll have more success.
