Tumblr Share Button Not Working On WordPress.com

    Hello,

    I would like to report that the Tumblr share button on WordPress.com does not seem to work for me when I try to share one of my posts, it looks like it is trying to load something but it never finishes, the Tumblr share button works when I use it on other websites, but not on WordPress.com.

    I am using the latest version of Windows 10 Home, Brave Browser (with the browser extensions: Ublock Origin, Bitdefender TrafficLight, Read Aloud, & Video DownloadHelper), and Adguard DNS.

    Hi there,

    Some of the browser extensions you’re using as well as the privacy settings of Brave are known to interfere with the sharing buttons.

    Does the sharing button works when you disable the extensions?

    Hello Fstat,

    I tried opening Microsoft Edge instead with all extensions disabled, tracking protection turned off, third party cookies enabled, and the Tumblr share button still does not work.

    Out of Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr; it is only the Tumblr share button that I have this problem with, and only on WordPress.com.

    One thing that I did not turn off was that I have Adguard DNS set as the secure DNS (DNS Over HTTPS) in both web browsers (https://dns.adguard.com/dns-query).

    The Tumblr share button works for me on other websites even with my extensions & Adguard DNS set as my DNS service.

    My computer is protected by the default Windows Security (Microsoft Defender, Windows Firewall, et cetera).

    FWIW-the tumblr button does work for me in Firefox 86 on a Win10Pro PC (temp screenshot)

    Have you thought about connecting your site to your tumblr via Publicize rather than the share button? https://wordpress.com/support/publicize/#tumblr Setting that up will push your posts to whatever tumblr site you connect, but you can choose to publicize only selected posts by turning it off for a specific post prior to publishing.

    I was able to reproduce this error, but clearing the cache helped to solve it. Could you give it a try as well? You can find here more information on how to clear the cache depending on your browser:

    Hello Justjennifer,

    Thanks for mentioning that, but I already have it set up; but I have had a WordPress.com blog for many years, and sometimes I want to share older posts before then. ;)

    Hello Fresatomica,

    I am glad that you were able to reproduce it, I already have all my browsers set to clear the cache / cookies / history / et cetera on exit, and I forgot to mention that when I tested in Microsoft Edge in my previous post I was in Private Mode I think.

    I just opened Brave in Private Mode, cleared the cache, logged into Tumblr, logged into WordPress.com, and used the Tumblr button on another post; but it still does not work.

    I tested it on all major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) across two platforms (Windows, macOS) and it works.

    I still think that your issue is related to Brave’s privacy and security settings. Were you able to tweak those settings or turn them off completely and see if that helps?

    Hello,

    In my previous test I even turned off the Shields in Brave, but that did not work.

    Even though I have my browsers set to clear the cache, cookies, history, et cetera on default that still failed; but I did try it again manually using a different approach, I manually cleared the cache again, exited Edge & Brave, opened them up again, logged into WordPress.com & not Tumblr, and then it worked in both browsers.

    Weird, thank you for taking the time to troubleshoot this with me everyone. :)
