  Is there anyway to prevent people from posting comments when you make a post on the main site?

  What do you mean by “main site”?

  The main page of your blog? Or the main page of wordpress.com?

  You can turn off all comments at:

  * Dashboard >> Options >> Discussion >> (various options)

  You can turn comments off a specific post at:

  * Dashboard >> Manage Posts >> Edit >> Discussion >> Allow Comments
