Turning on Commenting for My Blog Page

  • Unknown's avatar

I can’t seem to get commenting turned on for http://mattfeyen.wordpress.com/2014/07/08/finding-the-path/. I have turned on comments for the page and for the post that is on the page and it still displays “Comments Off”

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Comments are normally on by default. Check your settings at Dashboard>Settings>Discussion http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/

One other setting you should check is #3 on “other comment settings” whether you’ve indicated that comments should be closed after X number of days.

    Hi:

I turned on comments for mine too. I created my first post and then I edited it. I did not check if comments were showing until after I made the edits. Then when I viewed the post it said the ‘comments are closed’. Why did it close the comments for my posts?

My settings are all on to allow comments, but I do not see a comment form. If I am editing the post, then I can add a comment. If I am viewing then that box does not show up.

    Not sure what is happening.

I turned on comments for mine too

Again, commenting is ON site-wide by default.

The comment form is visible at the bottom of this single post

Hi justjennifer, thank you for pointing that out.

I was reading another forum post and someone suggested to go to Screen Options, select the checkbox for Discussion. Then scroll down on the post to see the Discussion box and check the checkbox for comments.

I did not know that option was there and when I found it my comments were unchecked. So I checked it and now comments are on.

I had gone to the Setting -> Discussion but did not know it also showed for each page or post.

    Regards

but did not know it also showed for each page or post.

Again, just to clarify: If commenting is turned ON globally on your site (and it IS by default) what that Discussion Module on the Post Editor page does is allow you to do is turn OFF commenting on a specific Post or Page.

Of course this also works the opposite way around. If you’ve turned off comments globally on your site, then checking the box in the Discussion Module allows commenting on that specific Post or Page.

If you are finding that other Posts/Pages have commenting disabled, I would again check your site’s Settings>Discussion to make sure comments are enabled.

However, this will not affect previously published Posts, only new ones and, unfortunately, you will have to edit each previously published Post or Page to tick the allow comments box in each Discussion Module. Make sure to Save/Update whatever you change.

    Thanks for the clarification, justjennifer.

Thanks for the help, I finally found the one box that I did not click to allow comments.
