Tutorials

I am using wordpress.com not .org and have a personal account. I am designing a webpage and may upgrade or FTP at a later date, currently I am using these options.
Can somebody please link me to any helpful tutorials, videos, or advice?
I am using: wpbeginner.com & wordpress.com but could use more.
A lot of the available tutorials are designated around upgraded accounts, themes, and FTP (wordpress.org) which may happen in the future. However, since I am working on a sample website I need the best tools, tutorials, & advice with what I’m working with.
Thank you in advance.

We do not have FTP access to our wordpress.COM hosted sites and have never had it http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
WordPress.ORG software installs on paid hosting have FTP access but we don’t provide support for WordPress.ORG sites here.
We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
(1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
(2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.Also, note that we do not provide Jetpack support https://jetpack.me/support/ for sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites wordpress.com account page.
Some Jetpack solutions are here http://jetpack.me/support/
Others are in the Jetpack support forum at WordPress.org
http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpackHowever, if help cannot be found at either one then they can file a Jetpack support ticket here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?jetpack=needs-service
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
As you are referring to a site that is not hosted here, if you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

re: getting started
Your detailed theme description page is at https://wordpress.com/themes/twentyfourteen and that’s where set up instructions for it are found. The live demo site is at https://twentyfourteendemo.wordpress.com/
You must be logged in under the username account that registered the site first. Make sure you are running an updated browser version found at http://browsehappy.com or upgrade, please.
The Admin login link to the dashboard for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
* You will have to replace “name_of_blog” with your actual blog’s name in that URL.
If the log-in information is lost you need to visit https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
Every theme has a detailed theme description page with set up instructions like this one https://wordpress.com/themes/twentysixteen/ and a live demo site like this one https://twentysixteendemo.wordpress.com/

A blog is a website. The difference between blog and website is simply structure and semantics.
A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.
What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one-way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds, and as others do not backlink to pages, it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.
Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based – no upgrade required. For greater clarity read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/

https://en.support.wordpress.com/five-step-website-setup/Switching themes can be easily done, provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the site. Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do a lot of work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme with different features and/or if you have done any CSS editing.
Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click the “activate” or the “preview” link, or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears.
The theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/ provides a preview function for exactly that purpose ie. so you can view what a theme will appear like prior to changing one.

I am designing a webpage
WordPress.ORG software installs are for designing websites.
Wordpress.COM is a turnkey operation with off the shelf themes.
https://wordpress.com/themes/Make sure you read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
-
I know the difference and there is more I can do with wordpress.org, I just have limited access at the moment since my credit card is disabled.
Thanks guys hopefully I can work with .com and transfer to .org once I put it together. You rock ,,/(*_*),,/
-
All you can do is to export and import the content.
You cannot transfer any theme from a wordpress.COM site to a wordpress>ORG site and visa versa. So do be clear about that.
No theme customizations can be transferred. No featured images and the like ie. features specific to any theme can be transferred.

Your first step is to completely understand the WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org document to be sure that WordPress.com offers the features you need to build your sample website:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/The Support section of WordPress.com offers great documentation:
https://en.support.wordpress.comOn that page is a kind of tutorial approach under the columns:
Start, Create, Customize, ConnectA critical topic to understand early on: Post vs Page.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/Topics covered in the support documents are listed on the right sidebar of this and each of the Support pages and serves as a kind of table of contents. Using that list and the search box at the top of the page will usually lead you to exactly the information you need.
And if not, come to the forums, use the search bar at the top to see if your answer is ready there, and if not, post your question.
