tweaking Harmonic site portfolios

the portfolio for Subtler.TV is not appearing online. currently titled practice, the dashboard shows it as published. please take a look? hope you can help.

Hi,
The project https://subtlertelevision.wordpress.com/portfolio/practice is not published. Have I got the project slug right (“practice”)? The only project published is “Prototype.”

yes that’s right. ‘prototype’ is listed among projects as published but clicking the portfolio link in the top nav (‘practice’) leads to the home page (https://subtlertelevision.wordpress.com/) i’ve searched through the customiser and dashboard but must be missing something. how are portfolios published with harmonic?

It looks like you might have created and activated a custom menu, which contains a menu item with the navigation label “Practice,” that links to the “Prototype” project (not to the home page). Is that correct?

By “portfolios” I presume you mean “portfolio projects.” They are published the same way that posts and pages are, by clicking on the “Publish” button in the editor.

You’ve done that with the project type = “practice” archives page: https://subtlertelevision.wordpress.com/project-type/practice/. That may be what you want. But the simplest URL to display the portfolio (all portfolio projects) is https://subtlertelevision.wordpress.com/portfolio/. You may create a menu link to the portfolio and name it (navigation label) whatever you want. For example, “Practice.”

That’s just a static page. Because the static page title “Media” has been assigned to the Portfolio Page Template at Page Attributes in the page editor, it displays the portfolio.

If you prefer a static page, such as “Media” in the demo, with the portfolio included, you can definitely create such a page and add a link to it in your custom menu. However, if you don’t create the page first, the menu item won’t have anything to link to.

that works! thanks so much, i must have had pages and types …any tips and tricks so that project thumbnails are visible in the portfolio template? the prototype book is showing up here, but the item under Practice is text-only. i’d also like to be able to adjust image alignment for projects. i’ve added a new piece called working title — also not visible on the portfolio template, also not aligning with the granularity i’ve grown accustomed to with wordpress posts.

“Prototype” is a project. The image of the book is evidently in the content of the project. It’s not a featured image. The grid items in your portfolio, or in the project type “Practice” archives page, do not include featured images because none have been set on the projects, or if you’ve set featured images they may be of insufficient size. The Quick Specs section of the Harmonic theme guide says, “Large images and videos have a width of 1216px.” They may not display if you use file images which are less wide than that.
A featured image is not typically drawn from the content of the post, page, or project, although an image may be drawn like this on some pages of some themes. A featured image is set with the featured image module in an editor (post, page, or project).

I guess you are referring to the featured images, which have to be set on each project.

Not sure what you are referring to as a “portfolio template.” Portfolio template is an optional template for static pages. “Working Title, 2015” is included in your portfolio, and in the “Practice” project type archives page.

got it. this has been super helpful, amazing thank you. now the wordpress ads are now overlapping my project images but i think that may be the last issue. is there any way to avoid ads — other than paid hosting?

I don’t see any ads. Where are they appearing?

smart. i mean the ad for ads. it appears over my images: “Occasionally, some of your visitors may see an advertisement here.” (Currently the actual ads appear on the mobile site, below my content.)

I don’t know. You may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention, if you’d like to ask staff about that.

an art deco tag sounds really good. first, do you know anything about exchanging site urls? another work-around the adverts could be to migrate everything at subtlertelevision.wordpress.com to an earlier blog, subtler.tv ? -
