Tweet is posted when blog is not yet launched to public

I was setting up my blog and have enabled post sharing (to Twitter with my account connected to it) but have yet to launch the blog publicly.

I then edited one of the posts which already came together with the template I had selected (Remote by Automattic) and saved the changes (post now titled “Hello Cypress – Course 1”, which resulted in it being tweeted automatically to Twitter. If one clicks on the link in Twitter, it will redirect to the “Coming soon” landing page, which is fine, but the tweet itself caught me by surprise.

    My question is:
Since my entire blog is not yet published/launched to public, I expected that any changes in the post (even post-saving it) will not result in an automatic tweeting of it, until and unless the blog is launched – so is this instance of an occurrence an expected behavior? Or is it a bug?

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Based on our activity logs for our site it appears that is has never been set as “private” so as it is now your site is visible to anyone that visits the URL.

Based on the settings I see here you are blocking search engines, but not public traffic to the site. Because of this, when you publish a post it does go out to your social media profiles as expected. You can prevent this by setting the site to “private” instead. When you are ready to officially launch you can return to the same settings page and make your site public again.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
