Tweets are display 4 images including my blog icon AND gravatar

Hi, I hope you can help with the following (I’ve put it under headings to make it clearer, please don’t think I’m being rude)

    Problem:
Tweets are now displaying up to four images including huge images of my blog icon AND gravatar in addition to the featured image. My blog icon and gravatar are being displayed as the same size/bigger than the featured image. It looks cumbersome, confusing and like spam!

Why I think this is happening:
All wordpress.com posts being tweeted (manually or via publicize) are being assigned a ‘Twitter Card’. WordPress.com have chosen to use a ‘Gallery’ type of Twitter Card, which displays a grid of 4 photos. If the post does not contain 4 photos, wordpress.com are selecting any images to make up the the other ‘slots’ of the grid. In my case, my gravatar and my blog icon.

(I have confirmed that wordpress.com are assigning the Twitter Card type as ‘Gallery’ by using the Twitter Card Validator Tool https://dev.twitter.com/docs/cards/validation/validator)

    Solution?:
Can wordpress.com manually change the Twitter Card type from ‘Gallery’ to ‘Photo’. That way only 1 image (the featured image which the author has already approved) would appear in tweets

Thanks for taking the time to look at this. That’s one possible solution I’ve come up with but by all means please advise me on what’s best to do in this situation.

    Hi @thenailluxxee,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We’re currently working on several updates to how posts are shown on Twitter. We’re updating how posts are categorized into cards. For instance, text-based posts with a large image (like this one) are shown in summary format like this:

    http://d.pr/i/yQvV

However, posts like this one that have several smaller images are being registered as a gallery post and are shown like this as a result:

Screen Capture on 2017-04-03 at 08-21-41.gif

In general, posts with multiple images are being treated as gallery type on Twitter allowing for up to 5 medium sized images to be shown. If a post has 1-3 (or 4 images but one is deemed too small), the post should show up in summary format (like this) using the first image of the post.

To your suggested solution, we’re currently releasing updates on how the posts are categorized and which images are included. You should see improvements over the next few days.

Please let me know of any errors you come across!

    Cheers,

    Jeremey

Thank you so much for getting back to me Jeremey

I have already seen some improvements with certain posts being displayed with a Summary Card type, which is much better!

I still see some issues with posts being assigned the Gallery type (the slots are being allocated with the blog icon and gravatar instead of the images within the post) but of course I understand that you are working on this and it takes time.

Very happy with all the changes so far and will continue to monitor the situation.

    Thanks again!
