Twenty Eleven Blockquotes CSS

Since upgrading to CSS any new blockquotes I put in are no longer strong/large in appearance. Anyone know how I can increase the font so that they stand out? Also, I’d love to be able to add large quotation marks around quotes to make them stand out further, but have no idea how to do it! Thanks in advance for any help :) (for http://isabelashdown.com )

Can you point us to a blockquote on your site we can take a look at?

Hi there – if you look at my home page http://isabelashdown.com , you’ll see I’ve successfully blockquoted one quote on the rhs of the page. I’m failing to blockquote the first quote ‘Ashdown’s storytelling …’ – when I add the html code, it seems to just add in a couple of returns on the visual and when I return to the code after saving, the blockquote code has gone. As a test I’ve also tried to do the line further down ‘Amazon: Hurry Up and Wait …’ as a plain blockquote but have failed!

Many thanks for your tips thesacredpath – I’m a real beginner and I’ve referred to so many of your other user answers to help me with my site – a brilliant support :)

Using Firebug in Firefox, I just did this to the first paragraph on the main page (Ashdown’s stroytelling…” and it shows as a right-pulled blockquote.

<blockquote class="pull alignright"><strong>‘Ashdown’s storytelling skills are formidable; her human insights highly perceptive’</strong></blockquote>

Using large quote marks around the pullquotes might be sort of messy as you end up having to increase the space between the pull and the main content, and then you also end up pushing the pull quote over to the left to make room for the quote mark.

Something with large quote mark images could be done on standard blockquotes easily enough, but on pulls, not so much.

Great – I’ll have a play around – thank you. Do you know if there’s an info post for standard blockquotes anywhere?

I think I’ve done this on at least a couple occasions, but CSS is theme specific and I don’t think I’ve done it for the theme you are using.

Generally this is done with an image. Some themes that use them do two images (opening and closing) and some will just use an opening. Generally an opening only is best since using two ends up making the text are for the quote quite narrow.

If you get your image prepared and uploaded to your media library, and post the URL of that image here, we can help you with getting that into the blockquote styling.

This tutorial looks kinda cool: http://www.thecreatology.com/3-best-ways-to-style-blockquote-for-your-blog.html

Post back when you’re done and let us know what you come up with!
