Twenty Eleven page template default

I thought perhaps I was missing a place to make this setting, but it appears it is a function of the theme? When creating pages, the default page template is ‘default’ which gives nothing but the content on the page vs the other options, Sidebar and Showcase, which will show that content alongside the page content. I want to change this default option for pages to Sidebar, but it apparently isn’t possible (please correct me if I’m wrong). It seems that in other themes this is the default so is it possible to make this the default in Twenty Eleven too? It’s a problem easily remedied by me if I forget to make this small change when creating a page, but I will be opening up the website I’m creating to others to edit and they have no experience with WordPress so I want to make things as easy as possible.

  • Hi there, the default setting for pages in Twenty Eleven is indeed “no-sidebar” but it’s unlikely to change from that.

Thanks. If there is ever a vote, then count me for one to change it to sidebar!

Our readers are writing us they love the new look but do not like no sidebar on posts. Sigh. Thank you.

@tuesdayhorse – you can use the sidebar on posts, you just have to change the settings vs a majority of themes where this is the default setting for posts.
