Twenty Fifteen theme does not show mobile version on Safari/Chrome on iOS

I am using the Twenty-Fifteen free theme for my campaign website. According to the theme description, when I view the site on a mobile device it should be formatted correctly. What I see is a very small version of the full desktop site.

The large mobile fonts, hamburger menu, etc are not shown, even though they look correct in the ‘live demo’ in the theme selector. Any ideas?

  • I’m not seeing any issues with your site in iOS 10.3 and Safari. I tested on a cross-section of devices:

    – iPhone 6
    – iPhone 5s
    – iPhone 7 Plus

This is just a guess, but is it possible you’re redirecting a custom domain to your WordPress.com site via a “masked forward” at your domain registrar? That process is known to break a theme’s responsiveness, so it would explain what you’re seeing. If so, you’ll need to map the domain to your WordPress.com site using our instructions here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

If this isn’t the case, could you please let me know a few more details:

    – What device (i.e. what model phone or tablet)
    – What iOS
    – Could you take a screenshot of the issue. Upload the screenshot – in a graphic format like JPG, PNG, or GIF – in your Media Library so I can see it.

    Thanks for the help!

The issue was the “forward with masking” setting at our domain registrar. Disabling the masking, and upgrading to a WP personal plan seems to have solved the problem.

The website looks correct on mobile devices now; iOS 10.3.1 with Chrome and Safari on an iPhone 6 and 6s.

    Again, thanks for the help.

  • Glad you’ve sorted the issue!
