Twenty-Fourteen front page

I’ve just switched from ‘Sight’ to ‘Twenty-Fourteen’ – and am finding it a bit easier to get my head around. But one thing is bugging me.
I like the front page blog and have finally got to grips with the ‘featured’ slider images. I want to keep this. My problem is that once inside the site, as it presently stands, a visitor would have to know to click on the site’s name to be able to return to the blog page. The site name is where the blog currently resides and where the visitor first lands.
I have all my fixed-pages on the top Menu. I want the blog and its categories on the side in the Secondary Menu.
If I just create a page titled ‘Home’ or ‘blog’ then I will just get a page with the title (I’ve actually done one and managed to ‘nest’ the blog categories under it but of course if you then click it, it’s just a blank page). But how can I get a page called Home or blog to list in my secondary menu and actually

      be

    the blog front page?
Any help appreciated. Site is currently private whilst I get it sorted out.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
