twenty fourteen post format

Hi, I’m using twenty fourteen, and everything is working fine, except for the post format. When I first used it, I was using Twenty Fourteen Ephemera widget for updates and quotes. It was working well, but then I made some changes to some sticky posts and I saw the updates and quotes appeared in the main blogroll. It seems redundant to have the quote post on the blogroll and have it side-by-side with the widget post.
I saw a post from a staff saying how to possibly adjust the post format
But I don’t know how to implement this code.
