Twenty Fourteen theme – 'Asides' format

  • Unknown's avatar

Twenty fourteen supports ‘Asides’ format, but when I create a post in that format it just creates in a standard post. How do I activate the ‘Asides’ to go in the content sidebar? The Twenty fourteen theme support doesn’t give explicit instructions. Also, making a ‘quote’ float into the sidebar – this is also an option with this theme, but I don’t know how to create the HTML to make this work. Any help please? Thanks.

  • How do I activate the ‘Asides’ to go in the content sidebar?

Go to Appearance ->Widgets. Scroll down the widgets list until you find the one titled Twenty Fourteen Ephemera and add that widget to your sidebar. You can set how many posts it should show and what post format you want it to display.

Also, making a ‘quote’ float into the sidebar – this is also an option with this theme, but I don’t know how to create the HTML to make this work.

Write the text you want in the quote, and click the quote button in the editor toolbar to turn it into a blockquote. Next, switch to the text editor and add the class-pull attribute to the blockquote tag, as shown here:

    <blockquote class="pull alignleft">TEXT HERE<blockquote>
to pull the quote into the left margin, and
    <blockquote class="pull alignright">TEXT HERE<blockquote>
to pull the quote into the right margin.

I’m not sure about Twenty-Fourteen, but with Twenty-Eleven you can also do this with images. See this article for more information if you want to try that, under the heading Pull images and blockquotes: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/05/04/workings-of-duster/
