Twenty Fourteen Theme Featured Content Slider/Grid shows only 5 posts
-
I’m using Twenty Fourteen Theme and the Featured Content Slider/Grid shows only 5 posts instead of 6 posts. And I also notice I’m unable to change the No. of featured posts in [Settings>Reading>Featured] as some users suggested in the forums. Please help me or fix the bug. Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes I had selected 6 posts selected with “Featured” tag as requested in the theme. It shows only 5. I was very sad with it and went to 3 featured posts instead. Still trying to find the solution.
p.s. there used to be an option in Settings>Reading but its not anymore! :(

I see what you’ve done – you’ve created a tag called ‘featured’ but that won’t work. Each post has to be made sticky in order to make it featured and that’s done by going into each blog post separately in the editing screen then clicking on the top right where it says ‘visibility’ then tick the box for ‘stick this post to the front page’.

@souldestructionblog thank you so much, this sticky solution under visibility fixed my problem. I read somewhere in the template that the featured tag would work, and it did partially somehow, but the sticky solution solved the 5 vs. 6 issue easily.

I have the same problem even after making six post sticky still just shows five. It is supposed to work with the featured tag a only according to documentation.

@homeclothesfree
There is no blog linked to your username. What is the URL of the blog in question please? -
@souldestructionblog: Thank you very much… after making all six posts (sticky + featured tag) it didn’t work. So I tried just Sticky for all the six posts and removed “Featured” tag, and it just works! :)
Thanks again you made my day!

No worries, Dibbledobble. I’m so glad it worked. It’s all because I am useless at reading instructions fully and tend to work things out myself, so didn’t realise there was that functionality with this theme to use a ‘featured’ tag!

Hi everyone, there was a bug in the theme code that was not overriding the quantity correctly—in this case we’d like to ignore it. That should be fixed now, sorry about the trouble.
More background in case you are curious. :)
I think this is a case of using Featured Content with a previous theme that wasn’t Twenty Fourteen possibly? With this new theme the “quantity” option isn’t needed at all as you can use “featured” tag (or another tag of your choice) or sticky posts to control the quantity shown.
The idea is you can have any number up to 6 posts featured at a time, but to show fewer than 6 you’d just remove Sticky or the tag from the post you want to hide.
-
Oh, if you are still seeing 5 posts—please load any page in your admin (like Dashboard, Themes) to trigger the fix.

Is there a way to link web pages into the grid on the front page? I’d like to be able to use it to show selected pages from my menu.
If not what is there a way to connect a page to a post – or to post a page?
Many Thanks,
Clive

@thejauntycontinuum Sorry for the delay. It’s only possible to set a static front page, showing one of your pages as your blog’s main front page. This guide explains how to do this.
If you want to point items in your navigation menu to posts instead of pages you can follow this guide on how to set up a custom menu.

For some reason, when I go to the customizer, features and select grid, I don’t have the ‘Featured’ tag option. None of my posts are being featured after trying different combinations of ‘sticky’ and or ‘featured’ tags. Any help is appreciated!

@soxandcandy could you please post your question here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/themes#postform ? the theme you are running on your blog is different from the one discussed in this thread.
Thank you.

Hi I’m having an issue having my posts show up on the front page as featured. At first i did the ‘featured’ tag. Then i read here to remove it and use the ‘sticky’ post instead and i did. But it still wont show up. Is there anything Im doing wrong. If so what should I do?

@youmeus2012 I don’t see any active blogs under your account. Could you please start a new thread at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1 and include the link to the blog you are referring to?
Thank you.
