Twenty fourteen theme – new default font?

  Hi,
  Since couple of days ago special characters on my blog don’t display correctly. It was fine for almost a year and now suddenly the font does not support special characters. So my question is – have wordpress.com recently changed the default font for twenty fourteen theme? I can see no other reason for the fonts being a mess now. What can I do to display the characters properly, excepts being forced to spend extra $$ on fonts upgrade? If the font has been changed, can you change it back for my site? Cheers

  Update: apparently, this is a problem with gogle fonts and the Lato font being upgraded to v2. More about it here:
