Twenty Fourteen theme not working

  Hi,

  I have recently changed my theme to the new Twenty Fourteen theme and for some reason its not working. I have looked up tutorials on youtube and all say that there should be a layout of pre-set Contributors, About, Home etc. in the top fixed menu, as well as Recent Posts, Recent Comments, Archives, Categories etc. down the side menus however there is nothing on my new theme at all, its all just black. When i try to add menus they arent coming up, neither are pages, or anything other than just a simple blog post on the main page. I need a proper tutorial on how to use the theme, but the one provided is not showing how to add all these things. If someone could please help id really appreciate it, i have an assignment due for uni and this is stopping me from being able to do anything. Please help, Thanks :)
