Twenty seventeen display of categories cloud in widget broken

  Hi

  I’m using the footer widget to display my categories cloud, for example on my main page https://manuschwendener.ch.

  At the moment it isn’t displayed as a cloud, but as a list with a frame around each category, both in Firefox and Chrome (on Mac).

  Please fix?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi there,

  I did some testing and I am also getting the same table column-like style when I create a category cloud widget with Twenty Seventeen. I am looking into this for you – it may be that this is the actual preferred style of the category cloud for this particular theme. But, I am going to verify because I would agree that it is not what I would imagine it would look like.

  No: this worked fine (= was displayed as a cloud) when I switched to Twenty seventeen.

  Hi there,

  So, you are saying that while using the Twenty Seventeen theme, it at one point displayed as a cloud, and then all of a sudden changed to what it looks like now?

  I’d noticed the same thing on our blog (we had it in the sidebar). A quick google makes me think that it’s a feature not a bug (https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/40184).
  It looks like they’ve changed it to improve accessibility (a good thing!) however now it’s just plain ugly, so I’ve switched it out for the category list instead, which doesn’t try to be pretty but at least isn’t jarring to the eye like the new cloud.

  Thanks for reporting this issue! The category cloud widget should now be displaying as expected, like the tag cloud: more cloud-like, with consistently sized links.
