Twenty Seventeen: Only Show Featured Image and Excerpt

    Hi there!

    I have a blog, booksandbindings.com, and right now my front page shows the Featured Image (which is usually the first image of any posts I have) and a short excerpt with images if available).

    I’m trying to figure out how to make the front page only show the featured image and a short TEXT excerpt. I think I figured out the excerpt part, but I’d rather it was just texts and nothing else. I’d also prefer if the featured image was centered.

    I’m a CSS beginner and know what I know from Googling things. If I can do this without having to use a child theme, that would be a bonus!! I don’t mind editing every time it updates.

    Hi there,

    It does look like you would need to modify the content.php file for this theme (ideally through a child theme to avoid changes being lost when you update the theme).

    Theme files can’t be edited here at WordPress.com, however it looks like your site is hosted elsewhere (with BlueHost), not at WordPress.com. Your site is using the WordPress software from WordPress.org so you’d really need to ask your question in their forums.     Hi @booksandbindings, it looks like you are using WordPress but you are not hosted here at WordPress.com. These forum are for those hosted here at WordPress.com. For self-hosted WordPress sites such as yours, I would suggest posting for help in the Twenty Seventeen support forum at WordPress.org.

    I took a quick look at your site and the following will hide the post titles and meta data (date, etc.) from your blog main page. 

    .blog .entry-meta, .blog .entry-title {
	display: none;
}

    Add that at Customize > Additional CSS and it will not be overwritten on theme updates.

    To get an automatic excerpt on posts, it would require a Child Theme so that any customizations you make will not be overwritten by a future theme update and the changes to the php script files, which would require some php knowledge and experience.
