Twenty Seventeen Theme: Comments will not show

  • Unknown's avatar

I cannot get a comment option on my blog postings.
Please can you advise how to get them added to my posts.
I have enabled comments in my Site Settings but they still will not display.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Are you referring to this WordPress site? http://mychina.alrite.me/

I can see the comments section on all the blog posts. Is there a specific page where comments is not showing up? Please link me to that and I can have a look at it and suggest further.

    Extra information

Also, just to make things clear, http://mychina.alrite.me/ is a self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org) site. Not a WordPress.com site.

The current community forums we are on is meant for questions related to WordPress.com account/sites.

For questions related to self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org), you will have to ask on self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org) community forums. Note that you might need an account to post on self-hosted WordPress forums. You can create one here.

Strikebuys thank you for your reply – even if I am on the wrong forum.
I am desperate. I have no comments – I have tried multiple browsers – all the same – one blog ends and the next one goes on – there is no place for comments, likes etc (like I used to have on my Blogger blogs).

I only have 2 menu items (pages) – Home and About. The Home page is my blog – and has no comments http://mychina.alrite.me/

The problem must be the Theme – since the WordPress settings are set up to allow comments – but this makes no difference.

I want people to comment, like etc my posts – but this is not possible.

    Regards
    Lex

  • Lex – please make sure comments are turned on under Settings > Discussion. Check the box next to “Allow people to post comments on new articles.”

For already-published posts, you’ll also need to manually turn on comments for each one, or use the bulk-edit tool to turn them on in a batch.

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Comments_in_WordPress#Turning_on_Comments_for_a_Single_Post_or_Page

In 99.99999% of WordPress themes, comments are only displayed on single posts, like: http://mychina.alrite.me/2017/12/settling-in/ They are not displayed on the blog page, like http://mychina.alrite.me/blog/

As Arun mentioned, these forums are for sites hosted on WordPress.com, but you’re running the WordPress software on your own hosting. If you need further help with the self-hosted version of Twenty Seventeen, feel free to post in its forum at WordPress.org:

You’ll need a free WordPress.org account to post – if you don’t already have one, you can register here:

Be sure to provide a link to your site when you post so people can help you more easily.
