TWENTY SIXTEEN: Home Page posts – Remove post.footer.entry metadata
-
Hi guys,
My Home Page shows around six posts.
Currently, the post.footer.entry metadata appears after each post.
What I would like to do is this:1) Remove that metadata. If this means that this also removes that information from the actual post, when viewed, then that’s okay.
2) Underneath the post title, place only the publish date.
3) Underneath the post title, if anyone has made a comment, place the number of comments directly underneath the date, eg 2 comments. For example:
2016 #579
August 26, 2016
2 comments3a) If there are no comments, just leave it blank (not Leave a comment).
4) As a result of doing the above, on the Home Page posts, place after each post a spaced ellipse centred, as a divider between the posts. Dots will be fine, with appropriate aesthetic spacing before and after the ellipse.
Your help with providing the CSS/HTML (as I am a Premium blog) to do the above is very much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi there,
1) Remove that metadata. If this means that this also removes that information from the actual post, when viewed, then that’s okay.
2) Underneath the post title, place only the publish date.
3) Underneath the post title, if anyone has made a comment, place the number of comments directly underneath the date, eg 2 comments. To remove the tags and categories from the posts, go to Customize > CSS, delete all the informational text in that window, and paste in the following custom CSS.
.entry-footer > span.cat-links, .entry-footer > span.tags-links { display: none; }For #3 and 3a, that would require modification of the theme php script files, and we cannot do that at WordPress.com.
4) As a result of doing the above, on the Home Page posts, place after each post a spaced ellipse centred, as a divider between the posts. Dots will be fine, with appropriate aesthetic spacing before and after the ellipse.
Let’s start with this and see what you think.
.hentry .entry-content:after { content: "..."; margin-top: 30px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; letter-spacing: 2px; font-weight: bold; } -
Dear Sacred Path, Thank you for these suggestions.
Re the footer.entry.metadata: I wanted ALL the information to be removed, not just Categories and Tags: So, remove the:
gravatar image my name / publish date / Edit
The ellipse looks great, thank you!

This will remove the entry footer content everywhere for you.
.entry-footer { display: none; } -
Dear S.P.: Thanks again. This works beautifully! You know your stuff… :)
PS: I noticed a Daily Post article in my dashboard today re Content Options in the Theme Customizer that virtually does the same thing re removing (or adding) author info, publish date, etc! Fantastic!
PS: I presume I can delete your previous code and replace it with the latest only? I will mark this as resolved. Thank you ever so much for your quick help. Now, only a couple more things…
Cheers! -
That is indeed another way of doing it. Not all theme support Content Options, or offer only partial support.
Yes, you can remove the other meta data rule I had provided earlier.
