Twenty sixteen theme won't save widgets to my site.

  Hi,
  I’m still trying to set up my first blog and keep running into problems with widgets. I’ve managed to get rid of a couple of images that came with theme ( Twenty sixteen ), but am not so lucky with widgets. In the sidebar, all I want in descending order are; search, categories, recent posts and a Facebook plugin with a privacy and cookies bar across the bottom. That’s all fine and dandy until after I’ve saved the draft and gone back to my site. The only widget left on both the home and the blog page is the search one, the others have all disappeared. I’d love to know what I’m doing wrong.
