Twenty Sixteen with Rebalance post sample format?
-
I love everything about my Twenty Sixteen theme except for one thing. I’d like to have my “Home” menu option display previews of all of my posts- the title, the first photo, and the first few sentences- very similar to the format of Rebalance. This way, viewers can see the photos and easily get a sense of each of the posts. I would then have a “Posts” menu option, that displays all post content.
Is it possible to create the sort of Rebalance menu option I described above in Twenty Sixteen?

Hi,
It would be pretty difficult to duplicate the grid-style of the Rebalance blog page on the Twenty Sixteen blog page. You might like some of the other magazine style or grid-layout themes available.
However, if you prefer to stick with Twenty Sixteen, one option would be to list posts on a static front page by inserting display posts shortcode into the page. You may customize the shortcode so that each post in the list includes a featured image (size options include thumbnail, medium, and large) and an excerpt.

Thank you! This is very helpful.
I found that when I tried to display posts shortcode into the new static front page, the posts would not display a featured image (despite me adding that shortcode in). I think this is because none of my posts have a featured image, and I do not want them to.
The way I overcame this problem is I am posting thumbnails of the first image of each post in the static front page and then adding the link to the post and a small excerpt in the caption.
However, I would like for the images to lay side-by-side. When I do not include a caption, the images lay side-by-side without a problem. However, when I add a caption (with the post link and an excerpt), the image jumps down and I can only display one image at a time. Is there a way to overcome this so that I can have three images per row, with captions, next to each other?
Thank you.

You’re welcome. : -)

That’s correct.

I don’t know. I got the same result in a page on a test site, but I used the old classic page editor, to which there have been some recent changes that I hadn’t noticed before. I used to be able to easily create a row of images with captions. I also noticed that the method I’ve used for over a decade for center aligning multiple images is no longer available in the classic post and page editors.
I’ll tag this topic for staff attention. Staff will respond here.

One option would be to create a table, with multiple images in a row. However, this shouldn’t necessary.

Hi holysmokesghostblog,
However, when I add a caption (with the post link and an excerpt), the image jumps down and I can only display one image at a time.
Do you have these changes saved as a draft so I can see what is happening with the captions? I’m having trouble duplicating this on my side which makes me think I am going about it differently :)
@musicdoc1 — thanks for all your help with this thread.
