I posted about it elsewhere with no reply

That’s very interesting the page / post thing. The Events page is indeed reached by .page-id2047 but I had not noticed that. Using the Chrome inspector to home in on any of the titles on that Events page I noticed that every one of them had the selector post-2047 so using #post-2047 seems to have an identical effect to using .page-id2047. I don’t know if one of these is more efficient than the other in practice but AFAICT they have the same effect.
The reason I have so many lines of #post-XXXX in my CSS is because I have 13 different pages using display-posts. So to rewrite with pages requires 13 lines either way.
Hope you don’t mind this long thread but I have learned something in the end and seems worth pointing out this overlap of page and post.
Thank you
Andrew

Ah – you’re totally right, I see now what you’ve been doing – targeting the post ID within the shortcode, instead of the page ID on the body tag :) So this is a case of six of one, half a dozen of the other – both are equivalent. Sorry for my confusion and thanks for talking through it with me. :D
