Twenty Ten CSS Problems
-
I have created several blogs. This is my first use of Twenty Ten. I like it, but there are many problems. I have been a Web designer for 15 years, so thought buying and using CSS would be easy. So far NOTHING works.
1-It opens in FrontPage 2000 with no line numbering.
2-Cannot change.the background color of the sidebar/widgets. I have tried everything I have read.
3-Cannot change.the Recent Posts to appear in a drop down box.
4-Cannot change.the font of the page title.
5-I was charged me for a Css update that seems useless. How do I do the above? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there,
There is no official Staff support for the CSS editing upgrade and only 2 Volunteers choose to help with it. I’m not one of them. I’m simply responding so this thread gets bumped to the front page where the Voluntters who do help can see it and reply to you. Best wishes. :) -
In your situation you should really only be adding the CSS declarations that you want to change and make sure the “add to existing” checkbox is selected on the CSS page. Don’t copy in the whole of the original stylesheet as this is loaded anyway and doing so will break relative links to images etc. Just your code modifications will be enough.
There isn’t an option to display as a drop down menu in the recent posts widget and a CSS workaround isn’t really viable as far as I can see.
Check out the following code and see if that helps for your other queries:
#primary .widget-container {background:#eee; padding:5px;} #site-title a {font-family:monospace;} -
Thanks, but I still cannot change the sidebar/wudget color.
I really don’t understand how Wordpreess can justify charging for a CSS product that doesn’t work and has no support. I purchased it just so I could change the sidebar color and cannot do it. Very frustrating.

Did you see what halluke said above?
When you alter a theme’s stylesheet, you only need to put in the Editor the modification/additions to the CSS, not the entire thing. Read this for more info:

@bhambuys, If I go out to the hardware store and buy a hammer, is the hardware store required to teach me how to build a house?
The CSS upgrade is a tool and when one knows how to use it, it works just fine. There are literally tens of thousands using the CSS upgrade here, but you have to have at least a general understanding not only of CSS, but of the markup (XHTML) and how the two relate to one another.
I’ll drive this nail for you, but you need to learn how to build the house. It truly is in your best interest to learn. Any new skill you aquire expands your knowledge and is a direct benefit to you.
#primary, #secondary { background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #FFC4F5; } #main .widget-area ul { padding: 20px 10px 0; } -
Hi TimeThief,
Yes, I followed his instructions. I pasted his code using the correct color number over #primary in the FrontPage CSS. I saved it and then saved the CSS on WordPress. The side bar is still white. I am so frustrated. I know $15 is not a lot of money, but it’s sad that WordPress is selling people junk. -
@olvbranch
don’t think wordpress.com is selling junk. I think that those who purchase the upfrade are not aware that they are expected to do the work all by themeselves. Staff do not provide either CSS editing lessons or official support for the CSS editing upgrade. Only 2 Volunteers lend a hand. When you alter a theme’s stylesheet, you only need to put in the Editor the modification/additions to the CSS, not the entire thing. Read this for more info:

Just past the code me or thesacredpath gave you straight in to the CSS Edit window on your wordpress admin page, no need to use FrontPage at all. I can verify that it works and as timethief says it is made fairly clear that the upgrade allows you to use CSS but doesn’t support it or recommend the upgrade to those without some understanding off CSS in the first place.
If you’re still having trouble then let us know. The volunteers here on the forum are pretty much all the help you will get, we do the best we can!

Thanks. I cannot find the code me or thesacredpath on the WP-Admin page?? Where should I be looking?
BTW, I designeed 150 websites using CSS so I am pretty familiar. WordPress seems very convoluted.

@bhambuys – look in this thread above for the code not on your site.
WordPress.COM has chosen to have certain limits to what you can change, some limits are for security reasons and I am sure others are for ease of support. they have something like 15,000,000 blogs they now administer – allowing anyone to run amok with changes could be a real teach support nightmare.
WordPress.COM is very generous with their refund policy – if you can’t figure out CSS then I suggest you ask for a refund during the refund window of time.

Go to your dashboard then navigate to Appearance > Edit CSS from the menu on the left, paste the code into the CSS Stylesheet Editor box, make sure “add this to the Twenty Ten themes’s CSS stylesheet” is checked and click “Save Stylesheet”. It will then load the custom code on top of the existing stylesheet. Here’s the code you’ll want to copy and paste in again:
#primary .widget-container {background:#eee; padding:5px;} #site-title a {font-family:monospace;} -
hallluke
,
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I now have a gold widgt background. Very simple once I was pointed in the right diretion. If WordPress has a suggestion box, it might be reommended that if somebody buys CSS, they are not sent to a line in the Editor that says “click Here” to edit. Clicking there takes people into the FrontPage editor which is where my problem began. They should be taken to the Editor to a spot that says something like “Enter Code Here”.
Thanks again for all you help. I salute you for your patience.

I have 1 more question.
How do I remove the hard-coded word “Home” from the top tab? I would like to be able to choose what the tab is named.
Thanks, Ande

Custom menues work the same way on wordpress.ORG software. But it’s important to know that he themes here with the same names as those at wordpress.ORG are not coded the same way. Most themes here were derived from wordpress.ORG themes and adapted by Staff so they could run on this wordpress.com multiuser software. The CSS is theme specific here and the stylesheets are not interchangeable between to two.
