Twenty Ten Featured Image Action on Click.
-
Clicking on a featured image returns me to the top post of my blog. Hovering over the header image shows the blog name, thus the return to the “home page” or top post. This is not what I want to happen.
I want to expand the image in a separate window or do nothing. This will keep the reader from leaving to post they selected, should the click on the featured image.
I have the custom upgrade, but have not been able to get the functionality I want.
I also want to control the area of the featured image that displays in the header for images that are larger than the Twenty Ten minimum [940 x 198 pixels].
Please help.
Thanks!

Hello there! Your theme, Twenty Ten, determines where the Feature image header link goes. In this case, it’s programmed to go to your homepage and this cannot be changed with CSS code. Most header images do return the user to the homepage, incidentally.
If you’d like to find a new theme that doesn’t display a random header, please let me know and I can help you look. You might prefer a theme that has a post slider, instead of a random header. That way those linked images will go directly to your post.
Here is an example:
http://superherodemo.wordpress.com/And here is the search I did for you that has post sliders, that utilize Featured Images:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/post-slider/When you look at the site’s Demo, make certain that the header/slider work exactly as you’d like on your own site.
Let me know what you decide, and then we can address the header size, if it’s still a concern! Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

Hello Robyn,
Thanks for the quick reply. I understand, although I wish Twenty Ten could give me what I want because of the time spent getting setup again. My reason for selecting a different theme is to have a WordAds Optimized Theme versus Newsy that I used until yesterday.
At this point, I think Twenty Fourteen may work for me. I’m evaluating…
Thank you very much. You are very helpful.
Best,
James

James, I totally understand. I want you to avoid as much wasted time as possible! If you have any questions about Twenty Fourteen while you’re testing it, please drop me a line and I’m happy to help.
I assume you’ve already done this, but just in case, here is a link to themes with post sliders AND that allow WordAds:

Robyn, thanks again!
I did, but not as succinct as your search. I get to learn as well. Comparing my two searches, I arrived at Twenty Fourteen. I’m looking closely at its features and previewing my blog therein.
So far, I’m liking it. I hope to have a worthwhile blog to show tomorrow.
Best,
James

Looking now, James…
Love it! I think the best thing that happened was switching to Twenty Fourteen. To me, your site layout is right on. I really like the way that post slider is looking. And really nice work with the Custom Menus!
My only piece of feedback is that I would get rid of the two RSS links in the top left-hand column. Those links will only display your site and comments in XML code, which is not really what most readers want to see. If you install the Follow button instead, people can subscribe to your site so they can view it in their Reader or via email notifications. I find that most people don’t understand what the RSS feed link really is, and they tend to think something is “broken.”
This is how the majority of WordPress.com visitors Follow blogs/websites:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/following/Those are my two cents. However, you know your readers much better than I do, and they might be super technical and want to see the XML code.
Other than that, fabulous work. Best of luck with the site!

Okay!
Read your comments–THANKS!
I placed a follow widget above the RSS feed widget. I have a few techies. with both, readers have a choice. i see if my number of followers increase much–more importantly, if my monthly earnings increase with this theme. I hope the blog pays for itself over the year.
I have a special feature I’d like to have. My research finds only WordPress.org has this for the Twenty Fourteen Theme. That is, the slider automatically advance to the next featured image–a slideshow.
I may also place a hearer image with the blog name larger than the current font. I have an image up now. What do you think?
Robyn, you are REALLY good!!!
Thank you so much…
Warm regards,
James

This all sounds great. You know what you’re doing :)
While it wouldn’t work for your Featured Image/Post slide, you could create slideshows elsewhere on your site. It’s one of the options you have when you install a gallery on your site:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/Other than that, you’d have to either find a new theme that may autoslide, which I cannot image you want to go through again.
I see that you have a full width header at the very top of your site. If you have the capability, and the software, I suggest adding your title directly to the image. Then you can make it whatever font/color/size you want. If you don’t have photo editing software, you can use a free online web app such as:
http://pixlr.com
http://www.befunky.com/
http://www.picmonkey.com/Personally, I thought it looked sharper/cleaner without the header image. I like that I could see the “meat” of your site right away. Depending on your visitor’s screen, they might have to scroll a bunch before they can get to your articles. This, of course, is totally objective. I always tell WordPress.com users to go with their gut!
You’re awesome!

I’ve used gallery slideshows and others as I have blogged. For now, I just want the 6 featured Twenty Fourteen images to “slide.” Maybe one-day your software designers will give us this feature. I hope…
I note there are themes that auto-slide. I do not want to go there now.
I agree with you on your thought of cleanliness. Generally, I prefer a simple white background–easy to focus on content. I have photo editing software. I may occasionally highlight cycles and allow for random display–a slideshow of sorts.
Thanks Robyn for looking and commenting,
James

“I do not want to go there now.” – Ha! I don’t blame you. You worked so hard on making this site look great :)

You could add your hope to the Ideas forum, if you’d like. Our developers like to hear the features our users want!

James, best of luck with the site (and the cycling)!
