"Twenty Ten" theme

Hi there,
You can find details on why we retire themes here:
https://wordpress.com/support/themes/retired-themes/#why-themes-are-retired
Let me know if you have any more questions about this.
-
I think, that was the best, nice, practical and timeless theme for the WordPress blog. :(
-
If you’re looking for a similar design, the Twenty Sixteen theme was created as a more modern version of Twenty Ten:
https://wordpress.com/theme/twentysixteen
However, that theme is also becoming aged at this point, and all themes that predate the block editor are eventually going to be retired.
So while I understand why you want to go for that classic look, I do want to encourage you to look at our newer themes that were made for the block editor as well. Keep in mind that these new themes are also much more customizable than the older classic WordPress themes.
It will take getting used to, but if you give it a little time, I’m sure the more modern look of our newest themes will grow on you :)

Hey @kokkieh Asking for clarification:
all themes that predate the block editor are eventually going to be retired.
First it was my understanding that the existing “Twenty-something” themes were explicitly updated to use the block editor and they do appear at https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/block-editor-styles where it says “This theme fully supports use of the new block editor to create and edit your content.”
Yet at the same time, those same “Twenty-something” themes appear under Classic Theme https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/classic-theme where it says, “These themes use the Customizer for most site-wide visual changes and often have more than normal options in the Customizer. They’ve been adapted to work with the Block Editor, but might have some feature gaps.”
So there seems to be a contradiction there? Thanks for any insight.

I don’t have specific information on any individual themes in this regard, and I haven’t seen mention that all default themes will be updated to be compatible with the block editor either.
I am reasonably sure they won’t be updated to be compatible with the site editor, though, as that would mean completely rewriting them from scratch to be block themes :)
-
Sorry, but I don’t like modern WordPress blog themes (and new block editor too).
Twenty Ten was the best for me. -
@kokkieh – thanks for that. I was trying to understand why the “Twenty-something” themes fell into both categories, “Block Editor Styles” and “Classic Theme” since they seem to contradict one another.
@idevpas Hi there, as it mentions in the support guide on retired themes, if you are currently using it on a WordPress.com site, you can continue to use it there. Just don’t switch to something else because you won’t be able to return to the retired theme. You also won’t be able to activate it on any new or other existing WordPress.com site.If you give us more specific details about what you liked about the Twenty-Ten theme, we can suggest a different theme for your WordPress.com site.
