Twenty Ten theme not available?

  Why can’t I select Twenty Ten theme for my new free site on wordpress.com? I used it several times in the past, and I like its simplicity. Is this theme not available anymore? If so, why?

  That theme has been retired. WordPress.com retires themes when they can no longer support all the features and improvements constantly being rolled out here. You can continue to use it if you currently have it activated but it isn’t available for new WordPress.com sites (as it is eight years old).
