Twenty Ten Theme

@abbysynth, you have to go to appearance > background and select “no repeat” and then save your changes. It tiles by default. There are other settings there that you should look at too to make sure things will look the way you want them to.

I love the Twenty Ten theme but I would like each of my precious post entry to contain that fancy date/time stamp feature, just like, for example, the replies to this forum thread. Thanks for reading my wish!

  • Unknown's avatar

Well, if you look here, http://opposablethumbz.wordpress.com/ , you will see that the date format on my blog is different from yours. Did you by chance change the date format under settings > general?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Thanks for that.

I had done that but the preview was showing it up as one small cropped pic instead of the full screen…. your reply made me go in and apply it despite the preview appearing wrong and it looked how I wanted it when appearing on site. Woot!

I started creating my own theme but found so many nifty bells and whistles on the twenty ten theme that I decided to go with it. Nice job!! But I am looking to answer:

How do you hide a page (from the navigation menu?)

  • Unknown's avatar

Twenty Ten has the custom menu feature (appearance > menu). Just create your own with the pages you want, and in the order you want.

    Menus

Is there any way to change the foreground and background colors of the menus in Twenty Ten?

Or failing that to completely get rid of the menu so I can create my own?

To change colors, you would need CSS editing experience and the paid CSS upgrade.

You cannot edit the theme itself here at wordpress.COM.

    Hi there
I am loving the twenty ten theme but have a question about the optional one column page template.
What I would love to do is make my posts page the single column page, as mine is a photoblog and would prefer not to have the widgets on the RHS. What I did was create a page called “blog” and then in Settings; Reading I changed my front page to display a static page (About or something similar) and my posts page to “Blog”. Except it didnt work, there is still a RHS sidebar on the page…
I can easily change any other page to be single colunm but not my posts page. Is this just the way it is or am I doing something wrong?
Im pretty new to all this so please dont be mad if this is a really stupid question. I did read through all the previous posts to check if someone else had already asked…

ps. I have changed it back again so as not to cause confusion to people veiwing the site, so the blog page mentioned above has been removed. If its going help i can set it all up again.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, this is the way it is: in 2010 you can deactivate the sidebar on static pages only.

You could try one of the (few) themes in which the sidebar can be deactivated for the whole blog – see here:

Widgets on static pages or single posts

I love twenty ten theme. The only concern here is I don’t know how can I choose the the template to one column with no sidebar. I can find the place to change the page but I have no idea how to change the default “Home” Template. Can anyone help? Thanks a lot!

I like the Twenty Ten theme; however, is there any way to change the color or size or background color behind the Site Title, Tagline or Blog Post Title?

Just lurked and jumped to the eighth page of this thread. A thought came to mind. After seeing over 200 replies, I’m thinking the WordPress theme team could consolidate the wish list for the Twenty Ten Theme; hold off on those goodies until next year and call it Twenty Eleven Theme, or something like that…

@panaghiotisadam: Thanks so much for your advice, i will be checking out your link.

I created a site/blog with WP Twenty Ten theme, but it shows differently in Firefox and Internet Explorer. In Firefox it is OK, but in IE two pages, Home and Noutati (widgets area) are distorsioned. Blog is in Romanian. Can anyone help me? Thank you very much! Here it is: http://www.businessconcept.md

The 2010 theme is OK – nice to play around with – BUT, I have a few questions:

    1. The bullets in IE8 are rather ugly; the bullets in the sidebar are a bit too large enough, but when it comes to lists in PAGES, eg. an ARCHIVES page, the bullets are ENORMOUS BLACK SQUARES, especially in IE8. Can you reduce the size of the bullets? Or even provide a couple of options for smaller bullets, e.g. arrows, asterisks etc?

    2. I would like to control which thumbnail appears in the Category “Gallery” next to the excerpt of the post: I have tried uploading images specifically to appear FIRST in the post, and for every post I also upload an image for the FEATURED IMAGE to appear as header for that specific post, but there seems to be no way to predict which of the images I use for a particular post will become the thumbnail when the “Gallery” category is run from the home page. Any suggestions?

    3. I have found that the Drop Down menu does not work with Custom Menus (sorry if this has been raised before). Only the native Pages menu will allow dropdowns to appear. Once the Custom Menu is used, the items in the menu just line up one after another, row after row until the black nav bar is enormous, Any suggestions?

    4. Last question: do the theme designers sit down to design the themes on a 24 inch Mac screen? Is that why everything about the 2010 theme is SO BIG ??? I am working on a 10 inch netbook, and although everything fits into the screen, I call the site -thomasnevin.wordpress.com – my BIG PRINT version for the visually challenged – of the same content on other wp.org themes. The print size in posts is BIG, but the sidebar print is way too SMALL. There seems to be no median between BIG and next size in tnymce – .i.e. between Paragraph (Header 4) and Header 5. Any suggestions?

Hi, I’m new to this and I am trying to add a slideshow just beneath the eader. I have made the slideshow and have the code but I’m not sure where I need to put it?
When I put it under the header php it just creates a blank space under it.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
    :)

First, many many thanks for everyone’s help. I’m doing a blog to turn into a site for an NFP. http://hsosc.wordpress.com Lots of my Qs have been beautifully answered, but I will echo another poster:

” is there a way to make the “About” the author of a post not show on each individual post?”

Nowhere have I seen ANY info on this, and I actually had to grow a new persona to get rid of my “about” box on this NFP site, since my professional profile is out of place/pushy there!

So far, I’ve figured out the “about” box only shows on the complete blog entry, like here: http://hsosc.wordpress.com/2010/10/08/a-sarasota-treasure-history-author-jeff-lahurd/

and I am confused (delighted, but confused) why my fake persona, Sara deSota’s, posts DON’T get an about box, as seen here: http://hsosc.wordpress.com/2010/10/09/placeholder/

I would like NO about box to show, for me or Sara… can anyone address this issue? TIA

Hello World of WordPress! THANK THE HEAVENS for this AMAZING service that is CHANGING MY LIFE.

    Now then, although I am really enjoying trawling through these discussions and sucking up as much knowledge as I can (I am not amazing with computer and know nothing of HTML – but I am learning!) there is one little thing I cannot for the life of me work out;

    I am using the theme Twenty Ten 1.1. I have removed the ‘side-bar’ so that there is only one menu going across the top, under the banner (great!). But in the void left behind there are a few inches of unused webpage going to the right hand side of every page;

    http://44calibreshakespeare.com/

Is there any way that I can reduce the page size to fit the blog / centre the blog properly in the middle / use up the whole page??

Whoever answers this question for me is doing me a fantastic service and I commend you thoroughly for taking the time to do so – I may not be able to advise people on how to programme HTML but I have spent hours on spreading the knowledge of Shakespeare all over the net for years!

    Thanks. H
