Twenty Ten Theme

    Hi, I’m struggling with this new theme – first uploaded a photo to use as the header, saved changes, visited the site and saw it there, then clicked on background, changed the background color, saved changes, visited site and one of the default photos was in the header. Went back, uploaded my photo again, then visited site, and the background color was gone.

    Also, is there a way to change the color “behind” the header photo? If I change the background color (assuming the above problem can be fixed) then I have a sand color background, white for blog body, and a jarring black color peeking underneath my header photo.

    Thanks for any tips!

    What you describe in your first paragraph of seeing the wrong headers displaying is usually due to viewing a cached version in your browser. When that happens you can clear the cache and cookies and then sign in again and that will usually clear it up.

    Header:
    The black pages in the horizontal menu can be changed if you are prepared to purchase a CSS editing upgrade and do the work yourself.

    Background
    The only “background” color change you can make using the theme option refers to the themes outer edges.

    No URL
    Without the URL for the blog you are referring to we can’t provide any advice.

    Heads up! Seems that Staff have been tinkering and added a “HOME” tab on the navbar.

    For people that meanwhile added their own “HOME” page, this means you now have two “Home” tabs in your navbar.

    @justjennifer
    Lol … I wondered if that would happen. :D

    I think someone’s been reading my tweets!

    Now if they would only add the ability to hide select child pages in the navbar (like we can now in the Pages Widget), I’d be a very happy camper indeed. :)

    So have you emailed the Theme Team yet and requested that? ;)

    Not yet. If you read Matt Thomas’ blog entry announcing Twenty Ten, he does hint that other things will be happening with the navbar:

    Drop-down Menus

    Twenty Ten neatly organizes your pages into a menu right in your blog’s header, and includes drop-down menus for multiple levels of nested sub-pages. There’s more coming with the menu, but give us a few days.

    So I’m still on hold, finger on the “send” button. :)

    Speaking of these drop down menu’s in Twenty Ten, does anyone know if this is the ONLY theme currently that has this function or is there other? If so can someone tell me what a few of them may be?

    Gottcha – 3.0 merge. :)

    Currently, the Bueno, iNove, Inuit Types, Monochrome, Neutra, Sandbox 1.6.1, Structure, Twenty Ten, Titan and Vostok themes are the only ones that have dropdowns to child pages from parent pages in the top horizontal menu.

    Woo hoo thanks Time.

    You’re welcome. :)

    I’m reposting justjennfer’s comment from the previous page:

    Is there any way to make the header image in Twenty Ten a link to an external site? We’re using a wordpress.com blog to augment an existing website and it would be great if users could just click the header image to get back to the main site. Alternately, if there’s another theme that would work better for that, we’re not deeply committed to Twenty Ten (though it is nice). Thanks in advance!

    @brokenchordmedia
    Would you like to run that idea by Staff please? You see wordpress.com blogs are not intended to be used to drive traffic to third party sites (section 2 bullet 5 of the TOS) and this issue has come up previously. When it did I asked for Staff to weigh in and they did. The answer is that Volunteers are not in a position to make a call on this, so those making such requests are supposed to be referred to Staff. Here’s the contact link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

    WOW – These are all GREAT tips but the main question that I have that actually started this thread was:

    can I change the text to white and the background to black? when you make a post in twenty ten theme the text is black and the bg is all white.

    thanks!

    With twenty ten, you can change the background color (outside the main container for the post and widget area at appearance > background.

    To change the color of the post/widget container area, you would need CSS editing experience and the paid CSS upgrade.

    @timethief thanks for the link! i definitely don’t think what we’re trying to do would be in violation of TOS§2.5 — our WP is the official blog of our company, and as such, we would just like to make the link back to the company’s main page more prominent. we’re even paying wp.com for custom DNS and CSS, so we’re helping to support the WP community :) i’ve contacted support, and i’ll let y’all know if there was some easy fix.

    @justjennifer – Totally agree. Am glad they added the “Home” link, too.

    Did WordPress suddenly add a Home page tab to Twenty Ten last night? I was posting some new stuff and suddenly realized I had two Home page tabs in the nav bar. I deleted the workaround page I’d created and a single Home tab remains. Cool beans, WP!
