Twenty Ten Theme

@timethief Incidentally, WordPress is probably working out what we were discussing in their coming version. Wish this applies to dot com platforms too :) See this: http://bavatuesdays.com/wordpress-3-0-you-had-me-at-custom-menus/

@Jennifer: Thanks – hadn’t noticed that!
@oninthough: I don’t subscribe to the “bad guys” theory (and I don’t see why timethief now does: when this pretext was first suggested to us, her reaction was a lot different). Violating the TOS by linking to types of sites you’re not supposed to has nothing to do with where the link is; and the proof is the theme Under the Influence, which includes linking via header tabs as a standard feature (Appearance > Theme Options > Extra Links).

“Because bad guys use it to do bad things.”I’m not buying that unless you become more specific. What exactly is going away?
Surely to God it can’t be a little code here and there to enhance my blog’s appearance by injecting some color. :(
I’d like to know exactly what bad things can be done by adding a nice background color like I did to to my About page? What security threat could that possibly present?
Tellyworth replied:
I’d rather not provide the details, but it has been used maliciously. We need to prevent that.
I don’t know exactly what will be filtered, but things like absolute positioning will certainly be blocked from within style attributes (not from custom css). I don’t believe the intention is to stop simple styles like colour and font settings from style attributes.

As of now, on blogs that don’t have the CSS upgrade we will strip the “position” property on save. That means you can keep your existing CSS in posts or widgets, but the next time you save it, it runs through the new filter and the “position” property will be lost.

@oninthough, wordpress.COM is already on 3.0. The switch was done a few weeks ago. Whether the menu feature will be added here or not at a later time is anyone’s guess. It will require that all themes here be modified to support it, and no one knows if they are going to do that or not.

Hello everybody,
I’d like to make a little change in my blog’s layout: I’d like to put the blog’s title under the header image (that is, between the header and the menu bar). Does anybody know if that’s possible? And how? I’ve already purchased the CSS upgrade (and made some changes already).
thank you! Miriam

panaghiotisadam — THANK YOU so much for answering. Your answer did fix my problem with the dropdowns. I had erroneously thought “main page” meant “THE” main page, of which I assumed there could only be one. I did read the “8 things to read before you post” and I think I added my blog name so it should show up correctly, I guess we’ll see here in a moment.

Hello there and welcome to wordpress.com :)You will quickly discover that the wordpress.com technical support forums are for posting either questions or the correct answers to support issues about wordpress.com software and its use.
If you persist in posting off-topic and/or pointless comments then you will risk being perceived as a spammer, an annoyance, a member whose forum posting ability ought to be removed. And I’m sure you don’t want that to happen, right?

Is it possible to upload an 900 pixel wide image on the twenty ten theme? And if so, how in the heck do I do that?
Thanks!
-
Are you referring to making a header and then uploading it? or are you referring to uploading an image into a post or page?
Header > Make an image exactly 940 x 198 pixels an it will be used as-is without cropping. Dashboard > Themes > Header > Browse > Upload
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-header-image/The maximum image width in a post or page on Twenty Ten is 640 pixels. Make an image and follow these instructions to upload it into either a post or page. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/

@santomarco
If you are referring to a header then images of exactly 940 x 198 pixels will be used as-is for a header in Twenty Ten.
See instructions here >
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-header-image/If you are referring to uploading an image into a post or page in that theme the maximum width is 640 pixels.

Thank you! Now I’m trying to figure out if I can link a JAlbum photo set to one page. I would host the JAlbum on the same server as our organization’s website npplfoundation.org.
-
-
@gardensgables: You mean a link to the album on a page of your blog, or as a header tab?
@: You mean the text in your posts, or the rest (blog title etc., sidebar content etc.)?
-
@panaghiotisadam: I hadn’t even thought of doing it as a header tab, is that allowed? But actually, I would want a PAGE with a header tab called “Photos” with a little text explaining “this will take you to our collection of photo albums for each year’s garden tour…”
I’m just learning how JAlbums work. I would host the album the same place our foundation website is hosted, not on the public JAlbum service. Does that make a difference regarding safety about links?
I THINK that with JAlbums, I can create one album with sub-albums, so what the viewer would see when clicking on the link is going to the JAlbum and THEN has the choice of sub albums to view.
JAlbums provides a way to link back to the blog, then.
Would this violate any terms of service or be a security risk in any way? I don’t want to get us in trouble here…. : 0 -
@gardensgables: Then you simply copy the URL of the Album from the address bar of your browser, write the link text in the page editor, highlight it, click the Link button, paste the URL.
And no, it’s not against the TOS. (It would be against the TOS if the sole purpose of the blog was driving traffic to another site, or if you linked to commercial products you don’t create yourself, or if you linked to pornographic material.)

I’ve just switched to Twenty Ten and much appreciate the appearance and features. Two questions:
1.Any ideas on how to get my home page into two-column format? It is showing up in one-column format, rather than the default two-column. All the widgets are at the bottom of the page. I can change between the two-column and one-column templates for other pages, but can’t find a way to change the template for the home page.
2. Is there a way to delete or alter the wording “just another WordPress weblog” in the header?
Thanks very much for any suggestions!
