Twenty Twenty-Two (Beta)
-
Hi,
Presently, I’m using the Twenty Twenty-One theme, which allows me to display Featured Images for posts as the same size (within limits) which I upload – mostly, either 960x640px or 610x960px sizes.
Regarding the new Twenty Twenty-Two (Beta) theme, I’ve experimented using both blog template width settings of 650px and 1000px.
My question: is it somehow possible to retain Featured Image dimensions, independent of which template width setting is selected? My concern is that, when using a 650px width setting, Featured Images of a landscape-orientation become quite small, while conversely, using a 1000px width setting causing portrait-oriented Featured Images to become far too tall and less defined/grainy.
I’ve tried the Twenty Twenty-Two (Beta) theme several times, now, and would like to use it – if I can resolve the aforementioned image size question.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Hi there,
Are you speaking of featured images on individual posts, or on the blog/posts page?
Can you please switch your site to that theme and give a link to the specific post/page so we can see how you currently have things set up?
Note that your plan gives you access to live chat support, if you’d like to have someone help you with this in real time. You can reach that by clicking the Help icon that appears bottom-right on all the My Sites pages, or else via the direct link at https://wordpress.com/help/contact

Hi,
OK, I’ve switched my site back to using the Twenty Twenty-Two theme.
Yes, I did live chat support for approx. 1:45 hrs.
Several changes were made, including:
– single post template: setting Post Featured Image to “none” (650px max.)
– index template: set 1st Featured Image Block to “none”, & set Post Template Block to “none”
– home template: set 1st Post Featured Image Block to “none”
And, some other alignment changes were made. Here are two example links with landscape & portrait orientations:
1) https://perkinsdesigns.com/2022/02/01/sunrise-through-fog/
2) https://perkinsdesigns.com/2022/02/01/moss-on-the-water/I’m OK with the 960px wide (landscape) image being stretched to 1000px, and would like to see that dimension on both the …/blog page & single post.
For the 610px wide (portrait) image, I’m not OK with it being stretched to 1000px (that’s way too tall, with reduced detail), but would be OK with it stretched to the 650px max – again, on both the …/blog page & single post.
That said, I would like my text always set to display at the 650px column width.
While the aforementioned points are not problematic in the Twenty Twenty-One theme, the flexibility of FSE with Twenty Twenty-Two is appealing; hence, consideration of changing themes.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Other, less important issues which I’d like to resolve entail presentation of previously assigned image block patterns (once resized), titles text truncation (random splits of post titles to next line), difficulty replacing lost widgets, etc..

Because live chat is closed on the weekend, as I also suspect it may be on holidays (i.e., Presidents’ Day – tomorrow), I’ll ask here…
I’m trying to use the new FSE Twenty Twenty-Two default theme for my site, though I can’t find a way to make my site appear as I wish?
What I’d like – similar to Twenty Twenty-One & Seedlet themes – is greater control over the integrity of my images.
For both the Index (…/blog) and Single Post templates, I’d like my Featured Images to appear as the size they were uploaded.
With a landscape-oriented image of 960px wide, I do not want it reduced to 650px wide (too small). I’d like it displayed as uploaded; here, at 960px wide.
The same is true for portrait-oriented Featured Images of a 610px width. I do not want it enlarged to display as 1000px wide (this makes the image far too tall, with diminished clarity).
Also, there is the issue of posts using image pattern blocks, for which this post https://perkinsdesigns.com/2022/02/16/stargate/ serves as an example. Viewing the single post, it appears as it should (barring an absence of CSS to correct link visibility issues). However, when viewing it on the …/blog page, the width dimensions are reduced and it presents less-well. For another look, see “Black and White Layers” (https://perkinsdesigns.com/2022/02/10/black-and-white-layers/) as it appears on the …/blog page.
It seems unlikely that the capacity to present images as intended – e.g., Twenty Twenty-One & Seedlet themes – would not exist in the new FSE Twenty Twenty-Two default theme, and I’m hopeful that your assistance may alleviate such concerns.
Thank you.

Another question re: Twenty Twenty-Two theme…
If you look between the “Photography” (group) block & “Digital Art” (group) block, as well as between the Quote Block & Subscription Form Block, there is a thin gap – seen here, white.
In each instance, how can I eliminate that gap so that the aforementioned blocks align tightly?
Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, after previously using live chat for 1:45 hrs. on 1/31/2022, resolution was not forthcoming.
I suspect this is likely due to how requests are framed, as a complete and accurate expression of the matter at hand is essential.
When next I return to live chat to continue this conversation, I’ll include this forum post by link with the hope that the examples provided herein offer greater specificity as for what I seek to accomplish using the new FSE Twenty Twenty-Two default theme.
