TwentyFourteen Theme Not Extending Full Width

    Hello,

My TwentyFourteen theme is not extending across the full width of my screen. When I was customizing the appearance, it made sense because the sidebar was there so I could adjust the appearance. Now that I’m no longer customizing, there is still a blank side bar when I view my blog. I logged out to see if maybe it was just because I was in the back office but it still had the same issue. Thanks for your help,

    Elliott

    Hi Elliot!

I took a look at loungeandplay.wordpress.com and it appears as if you have the Follow Blog widget installed in your sidebar (as well as a couple others that aren’t yet visible). Would you like to empty your sidebar of widgets, in order to stretch the main content area?

The other option is to adjust your Page’s Template to full width. In order to do this, please open your Page in the editor. In the right-hand column, you’ll see Page Attributes. In that module, you can change the Template to full-width. Then, save your changes.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or issues with layout. Thanks much!

    Hi Robyn,

I guess I should clarify. I plan to utilize the content sidebar so I don't want to stretch the main content section. My issue is with the header image and main menu not extending the full width. If I were to change to full width in the editor section, would this still correct the issue? If so, would it then cause me to loose the content sidebar? Thanks for all your help!

    Elliott,

I see! I took a look at your site and compared it to the Twenty Fourteen demo:
    http://twentyfourteendemo.wordpress.com/

They appear the same to me. I think whether you zoom in or out will determine whether or not your site appears to stretch the length of the page. So, too, will your visitors’ browser sizes.

While this cannot be adjusted, I think a good solution may be adjusting the site’s background color. It’s currently set to a light gray color. That is what you are seeing on the right hand side of your screen. Try this instead:

In your site’s Dashboard, click Appearance → Background. Where you see “Display Options: Background Color,” you will click Select Color. Move the slider to black. Then click to save your change.

Take a look at your site and see if it’s more aesthetically pleasing to you now. Let me know! Thanks!
