Twitter short links??

  • Unknown's avatar

Here’s the issue. Whenever I publish a post, a tweet is automatically generated. Great. However, because of the length of the address that wordpress.com automatically adds to the tweet, over half of the tweet that I had set (including any hashtags) are gone. I’m then forced to manually tweet at a later date just so I get all the hashtags, using the shortlink for the post.

Is there a way that I can force WordPress.com to use the shortlinks when Tweeting? If not, has anyone worked out what the maximum number of characters is that will allow full tweet messages to go?

I should mention that I do shorten the permalink for each post, and I’m currently setting auto-Tweet messages to be approx 100 character. (Surely 40 character would be more than sufficient to cover the web address, but based on the post that went live this morning, clearly I was wrong. It looks to be even short, more like 70 characters.)

    Any advice?

There has been a change that happened awhile ago now. Please see what Staff say in this thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/shortlinks-mishaps?replies=6#post-2436933

Thanks for that. I’ve made a note for future reference: keep all Tweet bit to 90 characters or less, then all should be good.

That is a good idea. You’re welcome and best wishes. :)
