Twitter / Tumblr links

Regarding the Forever theme by Automattic.

I want to add a simple link to Tumblr and Twitter. The Twitter feed options are bugged and don’t work. How does one add a simple Twitter and Tumblr logo to allow a link to those respective feeds. I see one for FB, but not for Twitter and Tumblr.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

Can you tell me more about the issues you’re having with the Twitter timeline? I’d love to get that working for you!

As for the social media links, does this doc help?

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-social-media-buttons-to-your-sidebar-or-footer/

Let me know if I can help further!

Just that the timeline doesn’t appear. Can’t give much else than that.

Ideally I just want to have a linkable icon for Twitter and Tumblr just like the ‘follow’ WordPress icon / banner.

Thanks for the link, but no, the options make it too complicated for a user. I see there is an option to add a FB link but no option to add a Twitter and / or Tumblr button / link. This would be great to have this available. Less clutter.

    Hi there!

I definitely understand. We do have several themes that include built-in social media links. Here are a few that I grabbed from the theme showcase:

    Hexa
    Worldview
    Singl
    Sorbet

I just took a look at the Twitter Timeline widget you have in your ‘Inactive Widgets’ section of your widget page. It looks like you never added a Widget ID from Twitter. You can see how to do this here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/twitter-timeline-widget/

Let me know if I can help you get that set up!

Yeah unfortunately when creating the widget, the link it asks you tro insert disappears when copy / pasting it into the widget customization tab. Thus resulting in an inactive Twitter timeline widget.

It would be great to have a social media widget added gto this theme, I have already purchased the upgrade for this theme so not keen on changing themes. Given there is a FB widget, perhaps a Twitter / Tumblr icon widget can be created.

I think I understand the confusion. You need to only copy the Widget ID number. You can find it in the URL, but if you include everything else it will disappear as you’ve described because our system sees it as an error. Here’s where the ID number can be located:

Can you send me the number you’re trying to use so I can try testing it out?

If you know of a plugin that has the capabilities you’re looking for, you should definitely suggest it over on the Ideas Forum!

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/ideas

The Ideas forum is a great place to give feedback. Staff pay attention to suggestions, and it gives a chance for other users to give their opinion as well!

    Ideas are always welcome.

I have already purchased the upgrade for this theme so not keen on changing themes

The theme you’re using is completely free. Your Custom Design upgrade will transfer to any other theme you select, so feel free to change your theme and try something else out if you’re interested! All of your customizations will still be there if you decide to change back to the Forever theme.

Please let me know if I can help further!

Got it, I was entering the code but identified that part of the problem was that I have adblock plus and DoNotTrack me going on Chromwe. This can sometimes screw with website functionality’s. Worked fine once it was switched off! Thanks for your help. The Twitter feed works well, very handsome. I will suggest the tumblr logo addition in the ideas forum. Thanks again!

Awesome! That was going to be my next suggestion! Those plugins and add-ons that block social media trackers will block the Twitter timelines from appearing.

Let me know if I can help with anything else!
