    Hi,
Is it possible just to have a follow twitter button rather than display tweets on the blog?
    cheers,
    Sara

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I agree! I refuse to use the Twitter widget because it’s really ugly! I’d like to see something similar to the new Facebook widget for Twitter.

Yep, we’ve got style standards to uphold :))))

There are as many different kinds of blogs as there are bloggers. For example, I don’t use the Twitter widget as I have a minimalist blog chock full of information for new bloggers and my sidebars don’t contain any bragging widgets of any kind. Every widget we install slows page loading time and my readers have Twitter accounts, so I find no value in duplicating my Tweets by installing the widget on my blogs. If a widget does not provide a link to directly related high quality information on other sites, or if it does not direct my readers information in my site that’s located deeper than the front page of my site I don’t install it. Best wishes with getting the kind of widget that you think looks nice.

ouch, now you’ve called it a bragging widget, I think I’ll remove it ;))))
    Oh well,
    much cleaner look,

I have blogged for over 5 years and bragging widgets are in my dim barely recalled past when I spent so much time looking at stats that would have been better spent on creating unique content and promoting it. … lol :D

It’s really up to you whether or not you choose to use any widgets. Some bloggers like to using the widget in question and others don’t. Whatever is your pleasure is fine. Best wishes achieving your aims.
    Happy blogging! :)

Ha ha ha!!! Thanks, I’m still in that space. Will try and ditch the stats obsession ;))))
    cheers!

Hey, I hope you enjoy blogging as much as I do. Have fun and remember we blog for pleasure so don’t let anyone rain on your blogging. Keep smiling and blog on. :)

I disagree about these being “bragging” widgets. I don’t post on my blog all the time, but spend quite a bit of time sharing inspirational items on my Facebook page, and am more “intimate” on Twitter. Using these services always readers to connect with me in a more personal and meaningful way than simply reading a blog. Developing these connections helps retain readers, and build relationships with said readers. That’s not bragging in my opinion. But then, I suppose it depends on how people use these services.

That is interesting because (a first for me, I tweeted something more personal today than I would have blogged, but that’s because I don’t think my family who may read my blog, are on twitter). But as a newcomer to much of this, I’ve been a bit taken aback by the business-like/instrumental approach of some people so I can see the bragging dimension. I think you’re right; you find you’re own way. But for now, I’m taking the ‘pleasure in writing’ approach – and failing in the time wasting stat watching stuff!

Everyone has a right to an opinion. IMO it takes a lot of skill or __?__ to Tweet anything in a 140 characters to hundreds or even thousands of people that could be accurately and honestly described as personal and meaningful communication. Since the advent of Faceplant and Blather I feel like I’m hearing the same resounding gongs and clanging cymbals everywhere, but that could be just a feeling as I haven’t have my hearing tested recently. ;)

my twitter widget won’t work. every time i try to enter my username, i save it and then view my blog and it has this little red box on the side that says it doesn’t recognize the id. i’ve tried it over and over again doing little different things to change it… but nothing works. any ideas?

@sarahinbologna: Your Twitter widget works fine. It’s your Facebook widget that isn’t working. For the sake of organization, please start a separate topic and we’ll take it from there: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

It’s interesting to me that you describe Twitter and Facebook as gongs and clanging when these outlets have fostered so much change in the Mideast. Obviously they’re powerful tools that allow people of similar interests to connect.

These services allow you to have a direct and immediate dialogue with people all over the world. If you’re only using them to talk about your most recent poop, sure, then they’re pointless. But from my perspective, Twitter has matured a lot since the beginning.
