Twitter widget
-
Yey, we finally have a Twitter widget.. http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2009/03/26/twitter-widget/
However, it looks really ugly or rather @replies do. Please see the screenshot: http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/4014/wpcomtwitter.jpg
Is there any reason for them to be split? Can they not be on one line: @username:
Also, any chance you can provide an option to filter @replies completely? For example this is a custom Yahoo pipe that only takes the tweets and no @replies. http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_id=5n7SVdLz3BGmoCmVEpPZnA&_render=rss&username=DouglasDoebler
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

@carocat which blog is showing you the split @replies? It’s likely custom CSS for your sidebar links doing that.
Many themes were doing that with
display:block;
but they should be fixed. If it’s custom CSS, check out the original CSS for the theme where you can grab the CSS changes. Look for either ‘tweets’ or ‘widget_twitter’.
-
These are the themes where Custom CSS may need to be modified: silver-black, solipsus, vigilance, regulus, almost-spring, fjords, or blix
-
Hey there, it’s on http://carocat.co.uk/ which does use custom CSS.
This is the CSS I’m using: http://sandboxskins.wordpress.com/2007/12/18/dark-lake-for-sandbox-10/
I guess I’ll have to bug devblog about it, I don’t know anything about CSS! ;)
Are you guys considering removing the @replies though?

Sorry to be nitpicking again, but it’s not actually updated in over four hours even though I’ve made loads of tweets since.
Got any idea why that’s happening?
-
Hi. I’m getting the same problem. I’ve updated my Twitter feed several times, but the latest tweets aren’t showing up on my blog. It was happening earlier today, so I deleted the Twitter widget and added it back, and that seemed to force it to bring in the latest tweets, but it hasn’t updated since then (several hours ago).
I’m just using the Pressrow theme with no custom CSS. Check it out here:

Until this works better, I’m sticking with the RSS widget. What are the current advantages of the official Twitter widget over the RSS widget as both currently work?
-
I’ve just added this and joined twitter to see what all the fuss is about, but in my first ‘tweet’ I included the URL of my blog andd it has overrun the edge of the widget in the sidebar and looks pretty ugly.
I don’t have any custom CSS so just wondered if this is something that needs tweaking?
Find it here (at the bottom of the sidebar):

Cheers :)

@carocat & @joegilder, cache bug was fixed last night. It should be updating every 15 minutes now.
@raincoaster, the output from the widget is completely different.
@theythinkitsallover, the link is too long to fit in your sidebar. We could hide the overflow for that.
-
@raincoaster: When I initially put it up the twitter widget updated instantenously, but since then I’ve seen delays of up to 6 hours.
Also, you can click links in the widget without having to go to the tweet first, so I guess that’ll be a bonus for some.
I’ll be disabling it again and going back to an RSS feed until there’ll be an option to exclude @replies seeing that 95%+ of my tweets are @replies and they don’t work out of context
-
Actually it’s currently showing the last tweets as being 14 hours ago but I’ve made around 30 since then..
-
Removing and re-adding it worked for me. Still trying it out – I like the smart linkage of @ replies, and links, but hopefully it’s not buggy.
-
So, this was working on my blog (cmclref.wordpress.com) at 11:30 am, but now, all I see is the header (Seen / Read / Heard), but no tweets. Is this only showing what’s been happening in the last 15 minutes? Or will it show the last X tweets? I’ve checked my settings, but I don’t know what else to expect…. Thanks for checking

When I added the twitter widget, it wiped out everything else I had in that column, like my blog roll, etc. I’m not tech savvy, so perhaps I’m doing something wrong?
-
Not at all. Adding the first widget of ANY kind wipes out the default widget set in the sidebar. You just have to add back in what you want. I suggest: archives, search, categories, tag cloud (if you use tags), Recent comments, recent posts.
