twitter widget

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I just decided to see what the twitter widget would look like on my blog. As you can see, it’s running off the margins. I have my twitter widget at the bottom so you will have to scroll down the the page to see what I mean. Here’s my site: http://fruitoftheword.com

I’m using the widget and did not do anything except drag it over. What do I need to do so it doesn’t look so yucky?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You have the Twitter widget and a Twitter RSS widget; which are you talking about? They both look fine to me.

the twitter RSS just showed and error message so I just removed it a moment ago. The twitter widget has the text running off onto the green margin and looks terrible. Is it supposed to do that?

I had both up to try out which one I like. I just put them up a few minutes ago.

That is because you are just putting the links to posts into the twits. Links do not have spaces in them so wordpress had a difficult time figuring out where to break things. Basically with links it has to wait till it finds a ” – ” to create a line break.

You are better off to create actual HTML text links rather than just putting the link in your twits.

I don’t know what you mean. They are automatically tweeted. I learned from timethief about “cocomment” and I have my comments (not just my blog) automatically tweeted. I guess it adds in the links, I’m not doing it manually.

I’m sure you get tired of answering what are “dumb” questions, but what is an HTML text link?

This is an HTML text link

The code for the above is:
    <a href="http://opposablethumbz.wordpress.com/">This is an HTML text link</a>

The above is the code for a text link. The link is put between the ” marks and then where it says, “This is an HTML text link” would be where you put the text you want to represent the link.

The issue then is with cocomment’s way of doing tweets. If you do tweets using the publicize function here, then it will create a “short” URL that will not break the layout.

Thanks for the publicize link. I already have my blog set up for that so anything I post will be tweeted nicely. But I want my comments tweeted as well when I am visiting other people’s blogs. I liked that option with cocomment but it’s so messy looking.

I guess I’ll have to decide if I can live with the mess or if I want to not have tweets on my blog.

Thanks for your help and your HTML text explanation and link.

Talk to the people over at cocomment and explain the issue to them and see if they have a solution. The way they are doing things is not good. Perhaps they have a solution.

I wouldn’t tweet comments too. I mean, god knows with close to 40,000 tweets I talk alot, but to me that’d be an Unfollow pretty fast. “I don’t care to say it to you, I just want you to know that I said it to someone else.”

yeah, I’ll probably remove it and just leave the tweets on my twitter. It’s so messy looking. Over this past year, I’ve tried different things and themes until I have what I have now — it’s clean looking and not cluttered. I was all over the map for a while. Raincoaster, I don’t even come close to generating 40,000 tweets, LOL. I’ve had a twitter account for while but couldn’t figure out what to do with it. I certainly don’t use it on my cell or anything like that. I don’t even like to text unless I have to so I’m not going to tweet when I’m not at my computer.

    Thanks everybody for your help.

I am having the same problem at http://www.salestaxconnection.com
Sometimes, I just want to twit about an article i read and be able to direct people to it via a twit instead of writing a blog about it. But, as you can see if the link is too long, it moves into my blog space. YUCK!

Love the feature, but hate the look.

Any ideas? If i Use the HTML text link on twitter won’t that take up most of my 140 characters?
