Twitter Widget

Hi. Where do I copy the code generated by Twitter to so I can embed my timeline on my page? I’d like to put it in the sidebar. The Widget ID method doesn’t seem to be working for me. Thanks, Clare

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey, I face the exact same problem. WordPress is outdated because Twitter gives you a ‘good to go’ link to ‘paste in your site’s URL’ but that option is no longer available with WordPress.

    HELP, WORDPRESS GURUS.

  • Hi there,

I’m afraid Twitter changed how the widget works on their end, so they no longer provide an ID that can be used in our widget. IDs generated before this change still work, but it’s not possible to get any new IDs. We only found out about the change yesterday when Twitter announced it on their blog, so we haven’t had a chance to update our widget to work with their new code yet.

For now, you can still get a widget ID that should work in our widget if you create a Search widget in Twitter. Set the search widget to your @username, and use the ID generated there in the Twitter Timeline Widget on your site. It doesn’t work perfectly, but it’s the closest solution that we have for now.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this.

Thanks kokkieh. I’ve done that now. It shows up on my page as an empty timeline with an option to click for tweets. That suits my purposes well enough for now.
    Thanks for your help.

  • I’m glad to hear that will work for now.

We’ll update you if we find a more permanent solution, but at this point I can make promises on how long that might be.
