Twitter widget and share counter dysfunction
-
Hello :)
The issue I need help with is my wp blog’s dysfunctional connection with twitter.
Despite the fact the share connection with twitter has been established (I recently reconnected following the official steps)
and the number of twitter followers are included in the displayed number of followers, the counter on the twitter share button no longer shows the number of shares (shows nothing), and the twitter timeline widget and follow button don’t appear on the sidebar.
I have tried to add new widget on twitter and applied the new number on the wp widget, but didn’t make a difference.Thank you in advance for your help :)

Add: the problem still persists. For a while I removed the sharing buttons to avoid showing as if there are no shares on these posts.
On some posts there are thousands. I would very much appreciate if someone could help me or give me some hints. -
Hello @nhmorgan –
Thanks for reaching out to us. I can assure you it’s not anything you’re doing wrong. What’s happening is that Twitter is dropping support for the share counts, it’s something they’ve recently announced, and so while some old buttons may show their past counts, new buttons are not going to. If you do a search on the web for “Twitter share count” you’ll see a lot of discussions about this topic.

Thank you Bruce for your reply and information, I very much appreciate it.
This indeed explains the twitter share count problem. What is odd however – and I apologise for not mentioning it earlier – that other share buttons, such as Facebook and Google+ also stopped showing the share count. This is why I thought the issue is on the WP side.
My other question is related to the missing twitter timeline widget and follow button – they don’t appear on the page (sidebar) either,
even though the twitter service for twitter gadget is still there and I think I did install them properly on my WP site.
When I did web search on similar issues I concluded that it may be a missing or dysfunctional plugin. This may be helpful to be added as well: another odd sign is that I can’t retrieve the list of Notifications on WP. (This issue has been there for many months now)
I click on the icon indicating there are new likes, replies, follows, etc, but the list does not appear – it seems as if the search goes on forever. Please let me know if you can advise me on resolving any of these related issues. Thank you so much for your time and help,

I noticed a couple of months ago Facebook share counts on all my blogs were slowly diminishing or on some posts had completely disappeared. This was long before the share count disappeared for Twitter. Neither are showing the number of shares now, only Pinterest has the number of shares showing.
Also if I change the sharing facility to the official buttons both the Facebook and the Twitter button don’t show at all – there’s a large blank space where they should be. I’ve noticed this on other WordPress blogs too, so not just a problem I’m experiencing.
It looks to me like a serious lack of connection with the share facility on WordPress, nothing to with Twitter dropping their support for share counts.
I don’t see this dysfunction with share counts/buttons on other blogging platforms – only on WordPress. Odd that, don’t you think?
The lack of a share count makes WordPress blogs look unprofessional, especially for those who choose not to use WordPress likes but prefer to use the share buttons instead.
This won’t be good for WordPress business long term, could cause some bloggers to to choose another blogging platform. Someone needs to look into exactly what’s going on.

Suzy and Sky –
Thanks for the followups. You can read more from Twitter about their decision to make these changes. If you’re not seeing the changes, you soon will:

On the Facebook side, there are a lot factors involved there as well. I’d suggest looking through these previous threads for more information:
