Twitter's Website Verification No Longer Works
-
Twitter ads & analytics has removed the “websites” tab from their dropdown, as outlined in thisthis earlier forum topic.
How does Twitter’s website verification (found under the Available Tools tab) work now?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry but we don’t provide Twitter support here. Please contact their support Staff directly https://support.twitter.com/

What I’m asking is, if Twitter no longer provides the code for a meta tag, is there a different way to verify Twitter for my blog using the Website Verification service?
I’ll go to Twitter Support; I just want to make sure I’m asking them for the right things.

We have never ever had instructions for verifying Twitter accounts here at WordPress.COM like we do these ones http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/
Also note that we do not have metadata access to WordPress.COM blogs and we cannot insert anything at all into the <header>.

I don’t understand. I’m using WordPress.com. I found the instructions above helpful and followed them for Google & Pinterest. Why include Twitter verification if you’re not going to include instructions on it, like those provided for the other verification services?

You can read Twitter’s FAQs about verified accounts page while waiting.

Just to clarify, I’m not looking to get a blue Twitter check mark. My question is about website verification for Twitter in the Tools > Available Tools tab, along with Google, Pinterest, Yandex, etc., for WordPress.com blogs.
I have a space for Twitter verification there, but there are no corresponding instructions for how to fill it (like there are provided for Google, Pinterest, Yandex, etc.). I just want to know how to find the meta key “content” value to put into the Twitter verification field.
-
What is your twitter ID? Below is an example. replace the ID number with your own Twitter ID number.

Example: <meta property='twitter:account_id' content='9123456'> -
Ah, okay. Thank you! I kept looking for content meta keys and all sorts of jargony things…
I went to http://mytwitterid.com/ to find it. Popped that 8-digit number in my Admin Tools, and I guess we’re all good.
Thank you so much, timethief!

You’re welcome. :)
I’m leaving the tagging for Staff up on this thread so they add some clarity to the webmasters tools support page with regard to Twitter Verification as nothing is appearing there now.
