Two accounts, same username
-
I have accidentally changed the username of one of my two WordPress accounts to the username of my second account while I was in the verifying process. Now, both of my WordPress accounts have the same username. And, whenever I try to change the username of my account back to its old name it says that it’s already in use even though both of my accounts are the same name. How can I fix this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Send beer & Pizza to the staff? :)
More realistic:
You will need staff help to sort this out, I have flagged this for them to help, to help them, what are the two account names you need help with and the associated blogs?
The staff is on a company wide meetup where they are plotting how to rule the world or something like that so they are a bit more backed up than normal but the do check into the forum and help

That’s what I thought. The account name that is the same on both is adamdkimbrough. The account name that I would like to be associated with the account I’m posting from(the one with adamscomputerblog.wordpress.com) is adamkimbrough, without the “d”.

I don’t think I’m supposed to be able to have the same username on two accounts even though they have different email addresses associated with them.

Hi Adam – You have only one WordPress.com account, adamdkimbrough, and in that account, you have this blog:
http://adamscomputerblog.wordpress.com/You also have a Jetpack plugin connection that connects your WordPress.com account with your self-hosted WordPress blog, http://theyouthinformer.com/
But http://theyouthinformer.com/ itself is not hosted here at WordPress.com. It’s hosted with FranTech Solutions. So when you log into that site here:
http://theyouthinformer.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Ftheyouthinformer.com%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1Those login credentials aren’t in any way related to the login credentials you use here at WordPress.com (even if you happen to be using the same username for both sites). Does that make sense? I know it’s a bit confusing, because they’re both “WordPress.”
It won’t be possible to change your WordPress.com account username to adamkimbrough (no ‘d’) because you had changed it from that, and when you do that, it deletes the old one and that can never be used again. However, if it’s confusing to have the same username for both sites, you can change the one here to some other username in this way:
Change Your UsernameLet me know if you have further questions about this!

Thanks so much for replying! I now understand. So, if I ever wanted to make another WordPress account would I not be able to use the username, “adamkimbrough”?
-
Hi Adam – No, no one can ever use that username at WordPress.com again. You could use it for an installation of WordPress hosted elsewhere, but not for an account here at WordPress.com.
For example, you could likely change your username for your FranTech Solutions-hosted site to adamkimbrough. For instructions on how to do that, this forum thread might help:

Whenever I go to my profile to try and change my username for my FranTech Solutions hosted site it says that “Usernames cannot be changed”.

Hi Adam – we’re support only for the blogs hosted here at WordPress.com, so for support for your FranTech Solutions blog, you’ll need to use the forums here:
http://wordpress.org/support/For some issues, you might also need to contact support at FranTech.
But typically, most people change their usernames on a self-hosted WordPress installation by first creating a second user account with the name they want and then deleting the old one and reassigning posts to the new.
