  What I want is to have a primary custom-domain public blog with monetisation and all that AND also keep my wordpress.com domain private blog associated with the same account. Can’t seem to find a way to do that.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Just to be concise: I want a public, custom domain wordpress.com Premium blog and a private, standard free blog both associated with the same account.

  https://wordpress.com/start/

  Or if the free site already exists under another account, you can transfer it to this one:
  https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/
