Two blogs under one log-in — want to delete one without deleting the other

    Dear WordPress

I run a parent council blogsite for our local school, called broughtonhighpc.org. I log into this as bhspc.wordpress.com.

Under this login is also an old demo blogsite I set up for the school, called broughtonhighschool.wordpress.com. I want to delete this one, and I see how to do it. But I’m terrified that if I do I’ll also delete the parent site. Do I need to worry?

    Thank you!

    Hi Duncan,

It’s common to have multiple sites under one login. Deleting one does not delete the other, so long as you’re on the correct site when you go through the ‘Delete Site’ steps, you’re all set. :)

To help ensure this, some folks will change the site title to something like ‘THIS SITE I’M DELETING’ before going through the steps. That way, in the confirmation email it will refer to ‘THIS SITE I’M DELETING’ instead of a known phrase like ‘Broughton High School.’

However, there’s virtually no downside to just setting the unnecessary site to Private instead. This will save the URL in case you want it in the future, search engines will stop indexing it, and no one will see content there.

Thank you very much, Alex. Just being paranoid here. I’ll take a deep breath and give it a try. (Or else I’ll chicken out and just do the ‘private’ thing.) I gather there’s no getting my site back if I ever do accidentally delete the wrong one. D.

Deleting a site is indeed permanent. Once a site is deleted, the content is gone for good and the URL cannot be used again.

That’s why we have the multiple steps and lots of warnings to make sure you really want to go through with it. :)
