Two Columns on mobile devices

    I have a few pages that have two columns (to look like a newspaper). Previously, this worked well on desktop viewers, but displayed as a single column when I viewed it on my iPad. I have a responsive theme, (twenty eleven) so I assume this was it ‘handling’ the mobile viewers. It was perfect, columns where you had space, single column where you didn’t.

    Something has now changed, as what was previously shown as one column on my iPad now shows as two. Now this is fair enough as the iPad does actually have the space. But I recently bought a smart phone, and the two columns on the smart phone look really really horrible. Unreadable I would say.

    Why does a theme that is supposed to be mobile responsive do this?
