Oops! You forgot to post an active link starting with http:// for the blog in question. Will you please do that now?

You will also benefit from reading this very detailed guide to the theme so you are clear about how it’s designed to function > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/the-morning-after/

what i have done is changed size of secondary column to 0px and added a blank text widget which has done the job in getting rid of the secondary column, however all i know need to do is alter the size of the ‘Latest Post’ as it appears on the home page – is thsi possible?

I have the same problem….. http://middleoriented.wordpress.com (nothing in it, just setting up at the moment)

In The Morning After any static page can be set as a full-width page with no sidebar (page editor > Page Attributes module > Template pulldown). The main column doesn’t become wider to make the lack of sidebar a useful thing. Perhaps that can be done with a custom design upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-css/ I don’t know as I don’t help with CSS. If you are considering purchasing the upgrade, you can go to Appearance > Edit CSS. There wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try before you buy.

hi
many thanks. I have the design upgrade and am trying to alter it via CSS but its all new to me! for the life of me I can’t seem to change the size of ‘Latest Post’ column but can change every other column -
If you have already purchased the upgrade and I assume you have then please see this post before you start your CSS editing > http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/

@enigmaimages
We were typing at the same time. Sorry about that. You will have to wait for Staff to give you a hand as they do provide support for this upgrade, or for a Volunteer who works with CSS to help. Best wishes. :) -

Thank you, timethief! (do not worry for “shouting”… you weren’t :-) )
I have decided I may stay with the two sides columns.. I have just seen this example http://demo.woothemes.com/?name=themorningafter and I am considering to use something like this.
In the end the “issue” only comes out for the homepage: posts do look larger when you view them by clicking on the title.

@iolandafrisina
Hello again,
You are viewing the WordPress.ORG version of the theme at that link. We have a WordPress.COM version here and it’s a bit different as the two ie. WordPress.org and WordPress.com run on different software so the theme versions are coded differently. See here please for the WordPress.COM version of the theme > http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/themorningafter/Note also that the site for the guide I linked to above is a WordPress.com site and that Volunteer is using the version of this theme we can use. Also note that Panos is very precise so I do recommend reading that guide very carefully. http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/the-morning-after/

@timethief
Thank you again.Then I will give a better look. I had read the very accurate Panos’ guide but as I can understand and as you said I cannot get the “Latest posts” section wider, that is the reason for which I would choose to have just the primary sidebar.
I will find a way to manage with the possibilities offered in the theme adopted for WordPress.com or I will have the section “Latest posts” narrower ;-)

I believe that you will find that without purchasing a custom design upgrade the column width for posts (aside from the layout choices provided by the theme) cannot be changed so you can blog in what is in essence the sidebar. Why? Because the themes I have used are all coded to have separate columns for posts and for sidebars.

Try this:
#home_left {
width:740px;
}#home_right {
width:190px;
}.secondary-sidebar {
display:none;

@Panos
Note enigmaimages started another thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/morning-after-theme-change-size-of-latest-post?replies=1 -

Probably because there was another person posting into this thread and I stated I could not help with CSS. Oh well … another day another duplicate thread. :)
-
@TT: Probably because they don’t realize that starting a new thread does not increase your chances of getting a faster or a better reply. (Depending on the volunteer, it might actually decrease those chances.)
What’s worse, this OP changed his/her mind and added stuff to the secondary sidebar instead of making the main column wider…
(Which in turn makes me regret suggesting a solution instead of saying what I originally thought: if you don’t like the structure of this theme, why don’t you just use a different theme?)
