Two different editors?

    Hello,
When I click on the “Write” button to create a new post, the editor that loads is what I think is referred to as the “new editor” (not Gutenberg). Very streamlined with a Title block and two lines of buttons. When I save the post as a draft and then re-open it to continue working on it, it appears in an entirely different editor. What I would call an older version.
My question is how do I make what I think of as the new editor the only one I see?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Howdy –

Are you viewing the post on the same device each time? Or are you looking from 2 different devices?

In any case, you can revert away from Gutenberg with the ... in the upper right corner of the screen.

It’d be great to see where you’re at. Please send along a screen shot, or the link from your browser bar, when editing the posts.

Screen shot can be added to the media library of the site.

    Howdy!
I have not changed to the Gutenberg editor, and I do not have the … in the upper right hand corner of my screen. I have screenshots of my problem and have uploaded them to my media library, they are the 1st two shown.
    Thank you!

  • Thank you for the screen shots.

You’re not using the Gutenberg editor.

The editor with the black menu bar on the left is the original WordPress editor, usually referred to as the Classic or the WP-Admin editor. You get to that one by going to https://ronwhited.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ and clicking on Posts ->Add New or Posts ->All Posts ->Edit.

The one with the entirely white background is the WordPress.com editor, also known as the Calypso editor. You reach that one by going to My Site ->Blog Posts and editing a post, or by the Edit button that will appear on your posts themselves.

In the context of Gutenberg, both of these are the “Classic editor”, albeit two versions of it, but they both work in essentially the same way.

The block editor, aka Gutenberg, looks similar to the Calypso editor at first glance, but it works significantly differently. If you want to give it a try, create a new post in the My Sites/Calypso editor, click the gear icon at the top, and click Learn More in the message that will appear at the bottom of the settings menu on the right. You can switch back to the classic editor at any time.

If you enable the block editor, you’ll see it in both My Sites and in WP-Admin.
