Two different pages, two different blogrolls

I’ve scoured the forums yet I’m still not understanding. I’m helping with someone’s wordpress powered website and they wish to have two blogrolls. 1 on a page for press releases, with the newest press release at the top, and 1 on a page entitled blog. The two are to be separate entities. I’ve tried links, categories…no luck. Help!

I’ve read through all of these as I mentioned, not working. Every combination I try ends up with a blank page under press releases or all blog entries. These are two separate pages that can be updated and archived, with no connection at all. I’m look at this website, theartofimpact.com, and they seem to have gotten it straight. What did they do that I’m not doing? -
The site you point to is not a free hosted WordPress.com blog like the one linked to your username so let’s not compare apples to oranges please.

Pages are static. They sit outside of the blog structure and you cannot post to multiple pages in any blog. There is only one main page for posts in a blog and all posts will show on the main blog page. There is no way to exclude posts from the main posts (blog) page.
What’s critical is:
(1) a clear comprehension of the differences between pages and posts > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
(2) a clear comprehension of the fact that there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page. But we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page. We organize our posts by assigning Categories to them. When we publish a post it automatically appears on the running page for posts and also on the Categories pages and Archives pages.
Note 1: There must be one published post in each Category in order for there to be anything to display.Note 2: You can either put the categories widget into the sidebar, or you can create a custom menu and add the categories into the custom menu.

If you do not want all the posts to show on the main page, then you can create a static front page for your site.
Choice 1 static front page.
Choice 2 running page for all posts on front page.Which do you choose? It’s one or the other.

One for the static front page which you can call anything you choose example “Welcome”, and one for the blog posts to appear on which you can call anything you choose example “Blog”. The Links Menu is where area you enter all links and assign each link to one or more Categories. Understanding the relationship between blogrolls, links widgets and categories widgets is a must for mastering wordpress blogging. The links you enter into your Blogroll are displayed only after the Links widget is placed in your sidebar. Also note that there must be at least one link assigned to a Link Category before it will appear in your sidebar or in your custom menu.

As mentioned previously, this is a commercial website that is paid for, not the blog connected with my name whatsoever. I understand everything you mentioned, as I’ve read the support forums multiple times and have played around with everything. This is a last ditch effort to try and help my boss who doesn’t want to pay for someone who knows WordPress like you do. The Press Release Page is under a custom menu called “About Us” The template is set to blog. I added the links widget and called it “press release” There is a press release link and a press release category. I do a test post, click the press release category, and even add a link to press release. No matter what, when a viewer clicks on the Press Release page, they still see the entire blogroll, making the blog redundant. There is something I’m missing that the creators of the previously mentioned website have already come to understand.

I’m so sorry I missed that above. I wish you had simply posted a link to the site you are working on so I would have noted who is hosting the site referred to immediately. That’s what’s key here ie: whether or not you are referring to a free hosted WordPress.com blog or to a WordPress.com install.
