Two Home Pages question again.
-
I have two home pages. I made the second one because I needed it to be in a static page format – thanks thesacredpath. The original is set-up for blogging apparently. I get that the original is hardcoded and I can’t delete it.
Q: How can I change the format of the hardcoded Home page tab so that it is formatted like the About page?

You can’t change the coding, but I think you could post a single entry to that Post page and not allow commenting and, for all appearances, it would look like a static Page and not a Post page. Don’t know if in Andreas09 you can change the name of that Post page to something else than “Home” and that could be confusing for your visitors.

The thing is the home page is linked to the catagories. It looks like the home page is the unbrella for any catagory I insert on to the site.

I just opened a test blog and tried this out myself on Andreas09. If you follow the instructions on that FAQ and this one http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/07/01/i-have-2-home-page-links/ and make your Home2 a child of your About page, it should work.
About categories-they’re only available for Posts, not Pages. Since you want to remove Posts from your site and only have static Pages, you won’t be able to use them.

Hi,
It was looking good until I found that there was only the About page option in Page Parent box. I do not want to make the Home page the child of the About.
thoughts?

The only way I know of to do that is to hack the underlying wordpress and/or theme files (html and php) and we cannot do that here at wordpress.com, and even if you were self-hosted and using the software downloaded from wordpress.org, it takes a lot of experience and knowledge to do so. With the Sandbox theme being very wide open to customization, it could be that if you had CSS editing skills, and bought the CSS upgrade that you could get Sandbox to do what you want to do, but I don’t have enough knowledge of CSS and Sandbox to say that for certain.
It sounds to me like what you are wanting is a website rather than a blog, and while a blog can be made to “sort of” work as a website, it will always be a compromise since a blog has a different purpose and thus, a different underlying design.
One thing you could do is to choose a theme without tabbed navigation and then build your own page navigation in a text widget which would not list the blog page at all, thus it would not be available and then use the static front page feature so that when someone came to your site, they would not go to the blog page.

Sorry-life has been a little crazy around here.
David, be willing to experiment a little and follow through with the instructions in the two FAQs I posted above and in Andreas09 it should work the way they say it will. Here’s the link to my example blog: http://myjustatest.wordpress.com/
